Strong Humming from surge guard

Hi!

We have a 2011 Allegro 32CA. In the left-rear storage compartment there is a TRC Surge Guard, model 41260. It seems to both my wife and I that the humming noise coming from this unit has been increasing!

This is tough when we try to relax in the rear bedroom, since this surge suppressor is right below us!

Any recommendations/suggestions? I am not sure what to do!

Howard

Post a recording of the tune, maybe we will recognize it.
Once the unit fails the humming will stop and be replaced with smoke.
Seriously, it could be near the end of it's service life for several reasons and perhaps you might consider changing it out.

If the house batteries are low, the fan noise increases on our coach. Just an observation but no idea what is going on with yours. Hope you are not going to have problems

The Surge Guard transfer switch/protectors do tend to hum, and it varies depending on the source of the power (frequency & voltage) and the 120v amp load in your coach. I have the similar #40250 and it does the same thing, running anywhere from silent to a loud buzz. I don't think there is anything to be done about it except to turn the tv or stereo up a bit louder.

I'm not sure about the internal components of your unit but when my Progressive Dynamics one started humming after a couple years I called them. They said the contact blocks were most likely dirty or pitted and needed cleaning or replacing. When the cleaning didn't resolve the issue, they sent me a new contact block for free which stopped the hum. I would call the manufacturer.

I did a couple of things that helped mine...first it was mounted on wood I had a piece of carpet and put that under it, next I shut down all power and the battery shut offs and took the cover off and tightened all connectors some were not tight, lastly I tightened the screws that we're going into the floor I found they were not tight....this quieted the unit down matter of fact it is again humming I am sure the earth quake going down the road does not help this best of luck to us..,,GlenB

Hi!
I Finally went on TRC's web site and discovered that the humming was coming from vibration of the internal contacts. I followed their suggestion of unplugging it for 15 seconds and then plugging it back in. Humming is Now much more quiet and certainly more liveable in the bedroom!

When my Surge Guard hums, I found that turning the bypass key off and back on resets the contacts and often stops the hum..

We had the same problem. Ended up going with a esco lyte transfer switch. It has dc coils which eliminates the 60 hz hum.

Unfortunately, it also eliminates the surge protection and the open neutral/reverse polarity protection that the TRC units provide.

TRC unit is marginal at best for electrical protection. Progressive dynamics offers a line of products much more suitable for whole coach protection

I'm five years late for this, but thanks. Mine was humming loudly, your unplug/replug suggestion fixed it.

I can't find TRC's website, though - I see one, but's for military sales only. Do you have a URL for them?
