Suction devices on dash

Having trouble with suction attachment on GPS and TPMS not wanting to stay attached to dash. Anyone put screws thru mounts to make suction cups more permanent. Not a lot of extra room on our 09 Ventana dash for these extras.

If the dash is hard plastic as opposed to vynl, you could try Champion picture mounts. I put a Champion hook on the dash of my pickup for a ham mic. Velcro wouldn't stick but Champion is working well. I haven't tried removing it yet, but supposedly it can be removed leaving no residue.

I did. Actually I put three bolts through the suction mount and through the dash. I backed the bolts up with washers to strengthen the area of the dash that I drilled through. Looks nice and it won't pop off. With the dash off I was also able to run the electrical cord behind the dash and down to the 12v outlet for a nice clean look. Has worked very well now for over a year.

They now make mounts that will stick to most surfaces. Search on sites like Amazon.

If your dash has too many contours, texture or scratches, suction cups won't work well. In that case, get a disk like this backed with heat-resistant 3M adhesive that you can stick to your dash then stick the suction mount to that.

They also make bean bag mounts that sit on top of your dash, and there are mounts that go into your AC vent, a cup holder or even into the CD slot in your radio.

I would do a search on Amazon before I drilled holes in my dash. Some mounts are universal and some are for specific devices.

I cut out a plastic disk slightly larger than suction cup and secured disk to dash with command strips. One year later - still holding.

Best Buy, Amazon, ETC also sell "gummy backed" mats that typically have a plastic disc in the center for adhering GPS mounts. These mats will sit on any dash and do not move! Simple solution...

Suction devices on dash

I took a bolt out of the dash and drilled a hole in the suction cup on my Garmin. Then had to get a little longer replacement bolt. Bolt was metric. It is solid as a rock. One bolt. Pic attached.

My advice would be NOT TO DRILL any holes...especially if you have a one-piece molded dash. The adhesive disk's below make an excellent alternative with no permanent damage to the coach. They come in different sizes...usually in mm's, to make sure you get the one that will fit your suction mount.

My problem with the mount is this .... The Garmin adhesive disc worked well till the vinyl covering the molded dash separated from the dash. My disc and vacuum mount is still holding to the vinyl, but vinyl has separated from the moulded dash. Vinyl is loose about 6" around the mounting point. Only thing I can think of to remedy this, is to drill a hole in the center of the mounting disc. Use a counter-sunk screw to keep it level and cover with a dab of silicone to seal the vacuum for the mount screwhole and affix it to the dash to pull the vinyl back into place. Any comments or suggestions?

Stop by an animal supply where yiu can buy a syringe and needle.

Stop by a hardware store first to get some glue to fix the mat and no clue there so others may have a suggestion.

Use the syringe to inject the glue under the covering via a tiny hole from needle that due to the needle cut will seal up when all pressed back into place.

Rubber cement or ???

If you were referring to me drilling s hole in the dash---I did not drill any holes in dash. Did drill a hole in the suction cup Then took a bolt out of dash & put a longer one in. I agree don't drill a hole in the dash.

I have foudn that most suction cup mounts.. Suck, at holding anything.

Screws and/or glue are your best options.

For years we've used the GPS holders that are 'bean bags'. You just set it wherever you want. You do have to have a somewhat flat surface but they easily conform to slight curves.
