Having read the current thread on the use of surge protection I thought I would start this poll.

What about adding one more category for the people that added one after being informed of the benefits of such device. "I installed a surge protector once I understood the benefit," or something similar. I have a surge protector, but none of the poll selections pertain to me.

We had a lightning bolt strike a tree four or five feet behind us. It tripped off the power pole and turned every light on in the rig next door. I also have an interior surge protector for the computer! Never have enough surge protection!

Good point, Happycarz! Can you add one more, JackR? Your poll is just starting, and I think it would add a legitimate option and definitely make better sense of the results. Just my 2 cents....

I agree with the question you both would like to see. However, adding it to the poll I believe would set the current results to zero. I think if you answered you have one won't defeat the results.

I highly recommend a surge protection system that will check for proper wiring, voltages and offer some surge protection on any RV that has much electronics. If it is an entry level travel trailer the cost may not be worth it but I will not plug my coach in without my Surge Guard in line. I have seen what can happen and repaired many that could have been saved if it were protected.

I agree, need a (will you add a surge protector). I have been told that the main breaker will trip if I got a surge without a surge protector. I don't know if my power line would get damaged first. I think I will use a surge protector from now on. Amazon has one for 50amp/240volt for $350.00.

Agree, one more catagory:
I also added one at the advice from a campground owner in Montana. He asked me while I was making reservations if I had one and told me that they have alot of electrical storms at that time of year and he has seen alot of rv's damaged by electrical surges from storms. On the way to Montana we spent the first night in Nephi Utah and the first night it saved me. True story, I am a beliver.
