Our 50A portable Surge Guard, which we purchased in 2007, will shut down on to high or low voltage. When/if it goes kaput, might try the Progressive unit since it has a life time warranty. I'm of the opinion that some of the campgrounds in the country were wired by a blind monkey.

Purchased the 50A portable unit from Techno RV a few weeks ago. It is currently $309 including shipping and excellent support and customer service:
Portable 50A Surge Protector & Voltage Protection
Our SurgeGuard died - of course we don't know what the problem was since there was no display to describe the issue. No way to fix anyway, as others have said. The PI unit cost me less than the SurgeGuard did 3 years ago.

No, the instructions are simple to follow. A bit daunting bending the large gauge wires into position, but not hard. I wired it then hung it in the back of the power compartment so I didn't have to reach into the back wall to install in place.

Nope.
Starting my 3rd year on the PT-50C portable that has save my coach 3 times so far.
I lock it to the pedestal, but we dont go to risky parks anyway.

I personally like the hard wired version. No worry of theft, weather, and I have the remote display in RV to monitor power usage.

FYI- Progressive Industries said their 14 ft display cable was as long as would work. Not true, I have my display connected to a custom made 26 1/2 foot cable and monitor my AC volts and amps from my hallway, with the rest of my house gauges.

The data cable used by Progressive is a 4 conductor wire, like telephone cable. The difference is it's a DATA cable, not a PHONE cable. A data cable is 'straight thru' - - the wire on the left remains on the right the full length. A phone cable actually does a 'twist' the wire on the left plugs in on the right at the other end. Just to use an old modem cable won't work, unless you put the connectors on correctly for a data cable.
