Surge Protector

I need to purchase a surge protector prior to our planned trip to the southeast. I'm looking at a Surgeguard or Progressive Industries portable models. Any suggestions or guidance?

Would you be able to tell me why you find Progressive the clear choice?

How about lifetime warranty for starters.

Don't limit yourself to just a surge protector go with the EMS-HW50C This is the total protection unit shown in a 50 amp hard wired model with remote display. 30 amp and portable units are also available.

I have a 50 Amp SurgeGuard portable. Why, I don't know, maybe because it's green?
If you buy a portable make sure you also get the lockbox, I rigged up some aircraft cable and padlocked it to my power cord.

I use cheap chain and multi lock same key method. As for brand of surge protector, just use one. Any is better than none!

I have a SurgeGuard 50 amp. It must have did its job, since it no longer works. I am buying the progressive EMS- PT50C . I am not fond of spending 400.00 every couple years, so the lifetime warranty sounds real good. FYI I called SG knowing my warranty was over, my intention was to pay to have it repaired assuming it would not be as much as buying a new one. To my surprise it is a throw away, no repairs!

.... made in the USA (in fact in NC) .... as noted, lifetime warranty .... when we plug in our SSP-50 the lights instantly tell me if the box is wired correctly and if the surge protection is working

I have a progressive, like it. Why? Because it work like they told me it would. Plus I called to ask a question and the fellows were very helpful. My 2cents worth.

Progressive Industries. Great US Company and the BEST customer service I have seen anywhere. They sent me a reconditioned unit for free NO shipping charge, and the one that needed replaced came with the used trailer when I bought it. I emailed them and told them I did not buy it came with the used trailer. Said that did not matter and sent a free one. I will buy their product again when I get a new rig.

I would definitely go with the Progressive Industries. Better warranty and great tech support!

I installed the HW50C on a 5er that I kept for 10 years, then another one on the MH when we got it in 2012.

I'm pretty sure it saved my tail last week. We were at a campground in Vidalia, LA. A really bad lightning storm moved in and a bolt of lightning hit VERY close to the MH! It was deafening and actually shook the MH! It shook us up bad! The TV went off when it hit and I just knew it was fried, but it was only a circuit breaker tripped. I hate to think what would have been destroyed by that kind of surge if I had not installed that HW50C!

It's without a doubt the best insurance you can buy!
