Surge Protector Recommendation
Good Morning,
We have a 2008 Safari Cheetah and are brand new to RVing. We need to get a good surge protector. Any recommendations?

There are portable models and units that are those that are installed in the rig. I think most Class A's have permanent ones installed. I've attached a U tube video which might help, this is the portable unit that we have for our rig. There are 30 amp and 50 amp.....you have a big rig, so you would get the 50 amp model. Great investment.

Progressive Industries. Get the full EMS, not just a surge protector. Portable or direct wired, your choice.

Hi azsr,
Consider along with the surge protector having a voltage regulator. They do different things and protect you in different ways. I use the Surge Guard Brand. Go to Surge Guard RV Power Protection | Technology Research Corporation and check them out.

Surge Guard 50A Portable with LCD Display | Technology Research Corporation
This is what I use, I have never had any issues, but for the small amount of money I like the peace of mind in case I ever do have an issue. Good luck!

I would not use anything except Progressive Industries. They have a lifetime warranty and fantastic customer service! I installed the HW50C on the last three RV's we bought. I wouldn't leave home without it!

I used the Progressive Industries EMS-LCHW50 hardwired in the coach. I didn't want something else to hook up and unhook each time or worry about theft so went with a hardwired unit. I liked the lifetime warranty.
As others have mentioned get a full Electrical Management System. It protects from low or high voltage, open neutral, open ground etc not just a surge.

I have had both the Surgeguard and the Progressive and my vote is with Progressive as it comes with better customer service and a better guarantee for the same price. My experience with Surgeguard was not as good and the product leaked and cracked.

I couldn't find a good place to install it where it needed to be so I bought the portable and installed it in the electric bay.

Another vote for Progressive Industries... None Better for service or help. Had a ten year old one that needed repair. Sent it back and they sent me a free remanufactured one the same day I was sending mine to them. Did I mention for FREE?
