Suspension & Ride
I drive a Class A gas coach. Most of the time the ride is OK, but when I get to Indiana the ride is very bumpy! Does
anyone have experience as to how the improve the ride? I am thinking of putting on a better shock than what Ford put on as original equipment.

Better shocks will help. Also having the right pressure in your tires after weighing.

Don't drive in Indiana?? Just kidding. Be glad you're not driving in MI.
As suggested, make sure your tire pressure is where it should be, if that doesn't help then I guess the wallet has to come out and shocks may be in order or you could take a look at the Kelderman air ride system. Whew, now that will cost a bit more then shocks though. Good Luck and hope you can solve the problem.

Check out the Ford Chassis forum Ford Motorhome Chassis Forum - iRV2 Forums right here at iRV2. A couple of long running handling and suspension threads.
When posting, it helps if you include your coach info. More apt to get pertinent info.

Shocks actually have little to do with ride comfort - they are there to keep the wheels in contact with the road when they bounce over potholes. As long as the cach doesn't bouince up & down multiple times after a bump (one "up" and one "down" are OK), the shocks are doing their job.
Many ride problems are excessive tire pressure - dealers tend to inflate to the max to avoid a lawsuit over under-inflated tires. Few of them know how, let alone bother, to determine the correct pressure. Use the coach manufacturers recommended tire psi (placard on wall by driver seat) until you can get scaled weights and adjust tires to the tire makers inflation specs.
As for the roads in Indiana, well, what can I say?

Don't come to Connecticuit either. You could trade to a DP that might help a little.

All the suspension mods you can think of won't compensate for poorly designed and maintained roads.
It is quite possible to build a road that will take a horrific beating from vehicles far heavier than trailer trucks, go through horrible winters, and not fall apart and develop potholes. Such roads exist all over the country, in excellent condition, but we're not allowed to drive on them.

We just got out of Indiana & onto Ohio roads half hour ago. We paid a small fortune to use their toll road & couldn't believe the condition. I would just stay out of Indiana.

I-80 through Indiana used to be a fine quality road. Several years ago the State of Indiana sold their toll road to a private foreign corporation. That corporation now makes all decisions regarding operation, maintenance, repairs, tolls, etc. We drove through IN last year, and could immediately see (and feel) that they were deferring maintenance along the entire length. They will allow it to deteriorate even further, until large fleet truckers threaten to change routing, then they'll whine about the cost of repair. I suspect the Indiana Toll Road will be a road to avoid for several years.

Illinois is mostly crummy roads also and will just get worse in the near future. Not only is the state deep in debt but a bill has been introduced in the Illinois Senate to take funds from the gas tax road fund so they can give the money to AMTRACK. I will have to contact my state senator and challenge him to drive down Illinois State Route #1. Took our 30 ft. MH down this road and did not enjoy the thump, thump, thump from the road. Jim.
