Tailgater
Hello, I just purchased a tailgater for my Dish satellite. Two questions has anyone had theft problems leaving the tailgater 20- 40 ft from your RV and do you lock the tailgater if so to what ?

I have had no theft problems with my tailgater and have not locked it down in the 2.5 years that I have had it. Now I had issues with my VIP211K receiver and can only use this setup about 75% of the time due to trees at campgrounds. But that is another story. When it works, it works very well.

No problems (knock wood).
We always use the motto "help keep honest people, honest" buy putting the Tailgater away when we are gone for any long periods.
Options include locking it to a fixed object (picnic table, fence, etc) but the lock tab on our Tailgater is really a silly thing...a plastic loop below the handle. I think it is just a feel good measure and if broke, it would not impact operation.
This is really a risk for any portable SAT antenna...or any of your stuff at the camp site.
We just pick-up if we are going to be gone for long.
Best luck

We use a long doggie tie out cable and a couple of locks. They come in several sizes and colors. That will not stop a determined thief but will keep some mischievous kids from walking off with it.

Cable and lock. Carry a short one and a 35' longer, can combine them if needed. If in doubt, we set it inside if leaving the coach.

To answer your question, I have a Kryptonite cable I lock around the handle and either some part of the RV or a tree. It's actually pretty silly since anyone could just cut thru the
Plastic of the tailgater without damaging it and steal it
Second point, nothing to do with your question; if you just boght the tailgater and can return it go ahead and do so. But a Winguard X2 foe Dish. It os so much better than my tailgater. First? It has a bigger sat dish so it can get better reception thru obstructions. Second, it gets both eastern arc and western arc satellites. If you do t know what that means, just do a google search.
X2 is great!

An east coast preference?
Western Arc (Dish 110, 119 and 129) covers more than 80% of the US. Paying extra for an antenna for Eastern Arc just in case we might need it in the extreme North Eastern US doesn't make sense to many RV's (an idea obviously shared by Dish or the Tailgater would be different).
And before anyone says "but the X2 gives two receiver connections...", so does the new Tailgater 2.
Before spending the extra $$ on the Pathway X2, a buyer needs to know what they are gaining for that extra cash. For us, the Tailgater is perfect and has worked flawlessly from WA to TX and everywhere in between
Safe travels
