Takata air bag recall... have you gotten yours replaced?
I just got a notice for our car that Takata has filed for bankruptcy and is trying to sell off whatever they can salvage. Looks like that will limit their liability possibly leaving many of us with rigs that at the least have reduced value and possibly are deadly.
The NHTSA website says they are gearing up for another round of possibly 30 million more vehicles in 2019 so even though my truck is not on the list now, it may be in 18 months. The VIN for our car does not show up on the NHTSA site but the model and year is on the list and Takata just sent us a registration letter. Really frustrating that they are rolling this out so slowly. I understand that they want to service the vehicles in humid and extreme temperature climates first but at least they should verify all the vehicles on the list.
With a possible 80 million airbags to replace for free it does not seem likely that all of us will be made whole on this before the money runs out. What then?

Toyota has had my '06 Tundra for six months, and will not return it to me without repair. They are providing me with a rental - currently a Nissan Frontier 4WD crew cab.
We believe that my truck was called early because of its early life in east Texas, where it is very humid. The air bag was in stock when I took it to the dealer, but an actuator without a sticker on it is the hold-up. Apparently not available.
I have no idea how this will play out. It seems unlikely that Toyota will call and apologize and return my truck unrepaired. It also seems unlikely that they will pay for a rental forever. I like my Tundra, but I am concerned about fuel and other problems after it sitting for so long. Maybe a buyback? An offer to negotiate on a trade? Maybe just "here have a new truck"?
I have heard of Toyota placing "no rider in front seat" stickers on vehicles, and temporarily returning them. I requested this a month or so ago, with no results.
I am interested to hear other stories.

Both drivers/passengers recently replaced in my 2007 Dodge 3500
Had both recalls since early 2017 but didn't take it in until Sept for recalls
Waited while swaps were done...........1 1/2 hour of coffee/donuts/chit-chat with other customers

When I talked to the Ford service rep he said they don't have parts for most of them. With 30 million more vehicles slated for recall in a couple years this doesn't look like it could possibly end without a lot of us left holding the bag.
I live in the desert so I imagine mine will be the last to get replaced.
I am in the Non-Destructive Testing industry and Tekata came to us and wanted a testing method for the inflators in question years ago. We developed a system and procedure but they did not purchase it. I was told they thought it too expensive. I bet they don't think that now.

That seems odd. Have not heard of that unless they just turned them off.

We had two Honda Elements that were affected by the Takata recall. First one, I took in to the dealership, they verified that my vehicle was included in the recall. Then they stated that there was a backlog on parts and it may be 4 to 6 weeks to get them in.
I said "Fine, I will leave the car, what kind of a loaner are you giving me?" Tap dance, tap dance, tap dance, then no loaner, you need to bring it back. I showed them the copy of the open letter from the President of Honda of America on their website that stated that if parts were not available, the owner would be provided with a loaner car until the vehicle was repaired.
"Oh, you know about that?" "Do you have time right now? We can pull a part out of stock that was waiting for another owner to bring their car it, and we can fix it while you wait!"
They fixed it in 1.5 hours. I then gave them the VIN of our 2nd Honda Element, they started to say they didn't have parts . . . I asked for loaner, they made appointment for the next day and fixed that one while I waited too!
Then 1 year later, I received notice that the replacement air bags were also defective, and they were replaced AGAIN on one of the Honda's.
Just recently got a notice that the airbags in my 2014 Subaru might be defective as well . . . .

Got the driver's side done in our Mustang last year. Have the recall notice for the passenger side but haven't been in one place since last summer long enough to do anything about it. Will be in Yuma for the winter, will try the Ford dealer there to see if I can get it done then.
Figured Takata would probably end up bankrupt over this... who will supply airbags for their customers then? Will be interesting to see if this disrupts auto production any (unless auto companies have already lined up alternate suppliers and placed orders)...

Yeah, could be several more years and probably a class action before this one is done. My dealer said that even though my model is on the list it probably will not get recalled until late 2018 when the next round hits. So far the only trucks on the list, (Ford), are the Ranger trucks but that may change. What a mess.

Wintering in Yuma, maybe I'll contact the local Ford dealer to see where they are on this as far as supplies, etc. I had planned to wait until I was back home in Indiana in the spring, but...

DW's 2012 Ford Fusion recall notice sent to me a year ago.... still waiting.
My 2010 Ford ranger still waiting.
Same story from Ford service, waiting on parts.
I will stop by with MH vin to see if that to is affected. Living in Central Fl. you'd think i would be close to the top of the list, NOT!

Mercedes says they don't have the replacement for my 2014 Sprinter. They told me they would call if/when get it. I hope I never have to use them because I don't see it ever getting replaced.

Won't be doing our Accord, figure people lived with cars for 100 years without them. We live in Oregon with no humidity so very unlikely to ever have a problem with them. A few failures with millions installed is less a problem than many other car problems.
