Taking out Washer/Dryer Combo Instructions?

Hi,

I'm new to this site and forum and like to find out info about how to do something before I ask my husband to do it. I want to take out my Washing/Dryer Combo in my bedroom and turn that area into drawers for clothes. I always have too much laundry to do to use it, so it is wasted space. It's a Splenddid 2000S All-in-0ne. We have a 2005 Tiffin Phaeton.

Please tell me this is an easy job for my husband!

Maybe I can sell the Spendid in the classifieds here!

Would appreciate the advice of any experts in this area!

We added our W/D and it was no problem.....just find the holding points, screws,bolts etc. and remove them, unhook the water lines hot and cold, remove the vent and slide the W/D out. Now the problem becomes how to move the W/D, you may have to slide it, carry it or something. It will be heavy and awkward but do able, then take it out of the M/H.

Removing the Splendide is not real hard, though the details depend on the actual model and floor plan of the coach. The washer itself just plugs in and has two water hoses and a drain line to remove.

Whether your husband has the cabinetry skills to build what you want in place of it, only you & he can decide. If there is already a useful door on the space and he just needs to add shelves, that should be easy enough. If the interior of the space needs finishing or dividers or ???? to meet your needs, you & he will have to decide.

We have a 2005 Allegro Bay, and I recently had our Splendide part way out to work on it. There is a carpet-covered wooden bar above the machine to keep it from bouncing around, but I didn't have to remove the bar to get the washer out. There is really nothing holding it in place except gravity.

To get the washer out of the cabinet, turn off the water in the back and disconnect the hoses, unplug the electrical wire, loosen the screw on the clamp on the vent hose, and pull the drain hose out of the standpipe. Rock the washer back, lift the bottom up over the lip of the cabinet at the bottom, and slide the washer forward.

The only problem I would have had getting the washer all the way out would have been getting it past the cabinet opposite the washer. That's the reason I only took ours part way out to work on it. I see by your profile you have a 40' Phaeton, and if it's the quad slide floorplan, you should have nothing in the way.

Let us know how you make out. Maybe you can include some before and after photos of the cabinet work when it's done.

I have a little different view of this task. I have removed and replaced our 2100 3 times. The first time I did it myself. The second time I took it out by myself and needed help re-installing it. This last time (2009) I needed help getting it out and it was really difficult replacing it with two people. I'm not sure if I was having a mental problem with the task or that I'm getting too old for this stuff. Since you are removing the unit and not replacing it, if hubby has a friend there should be no problem. If he is going to do it himself, it could be quite an adventure with potential for some medical problems. Put towels on the lip trim to keep from damaging it.

Like Gary RVRoamer posted, a lot depends on the floor plan. Mine is as tight as one can get with no room on one side when removing and re-installing.

Its a 2 man job just very bulkey, don't rush. But in my opinion its a big mistake there are tons of other places you can make for storage a washer dryer is a valuable asset if you plan to be on the road for any length of time not to mention resale. Just reorganize your current storage spaces, plus its easier on your husbands back to leave it where it is!

We do laundry often with a 14 lb tub. We like using our own washer as to laundrymates. We find the dryer is a little tricky as not to wrinkle everything.

Our Horizon has a very narrow entry door and a tight turn between the co-pilot seat and the dash. The previous owner had to remove the windshield and use a forklift to get our W/D out.

Wish we had it back.

If you plan to sell your Splendide unit, follow the directions for moving it. Most all front-load washers come with 2 shipping bolts holding the tub solid to the back panel. This prevents damage to the self-balance feature of the tub when jostled while moving it. If fact, despite mfgr. advertising Splendide units for RV's, my instruction booklet states it is not designed for such use.

If you have carpeting then put a large piece of cardboard under machine to slide it on ot with other type flooring a throw rug will work. A two man carry strap will work also but users should be experienced in it's use to prevent property damage and injury to selves.

I took mine out several years ago and seem to remember there were some clips at bothe front feet. Mine was also installed under a shelf that was readily removable to get at the water connections and to get a hand hold on the back edge for moving it out. It was heavy, but it fit through the door of my MH. Cardboard over carpet is a good idea. I rewired the outlet, which originally switched between the washer/dryer and the microwave, and installed a small 120vac refrigerator. Then the shelf went back in to hold the coffee pot.

I have a 2010 Phaeton and as I reply here the washer and dryer are being replaced. I just got a call from the dealer, that these units will not fit through the emergency exit or the bathroom hallway. They had to remove the 1/2 wall by the shower, which of course broke to get the units past that point. Now I am waiiting for a new wall. Maybe you should keep the washer/dryer where it is. I also think its a good selling point.

I've read posts that explain the washer/dryer must be removed through the windshield opening on some MH's.
