So far we've RVed a little over 800k miles.
We don't intend to spend any time, or money, south of the boarder until we see everything there is to see, (and do everything there is to do), in the good old U.S.A.
(Besides, judging by the action at the border, even Mexicans don't especially care for Mexico).

I've seen a lot of the US. Much of it is the same, desert. I enjoy the difference in culture. That is why I winter down there. That, and campgrounds like the one below. Try to find that in the US. At $20 a night.

Pictures look good of Mexican resort areas. Wonder why the illegals don't go there instead of trying to cross into scenic America over fences and thru border patrols?

Speaking of RV'ing in Mexico, if you've not seen the movie, "We Are The Millers," you have got to check it out. Warning, it's full of foul language, but hilarious.
One day I plan to make the trip south. I've been within an hours drive numerous times.

No reasoning with he who is convinced and will not see.
Paul obviously has a financial connection with the company sponsoring these caravans and it is in his interest to convince others to make the trip with him

I hear all your arguments for the safety of Mexico, but there's not enough money in the world to make me take ANYTHING into Mexico. JMHO!

I am curious how you are allowed to advertise your services for Caravanas De Mexico. Are you a paying advertiser? I notice you took the picture you posted straight from the front page of your company's web site. It would mean more to me at least if you weren't schilling for a company.

That is also the place I spend 2 months a year and have for the last 7 years. It slag8una de Tule in Melaque, about 5 hours south of Puerto Vallarta. It is also a caravan stop for some companies, including the one I work for. I only lead Fall caravans, I travel on my own in Spring.
As far as going to Mexico in an RV its all up to the individuals comfort zone. I write magazine articles and give seminars on the subject at RV shows and teach people how to do it safely on their own or in a caravan and navigate the paperwork involved. As far as caravans are concerned, I would not take one myself, but I am more of an independent traveler. I traveled overland across Africa on one occasion for eg.They are a way for those who are nervous to get their feet wet. There are several companies out there besides the one I work for, Adventure, Fantasy, Baja Amigos & Baja Winters to name a few. All do different types of trips. However, you do not need an organized caravan to find others to travel with. PM me if you want info on that. [ moderator edit ]

Not a well-considered plan if you think about it - unless it is really just an excuse for avoiding experiences that might be a little outside your comfort zone.
Explore the world while you still have reasonable health and fitness and adaptability, then when you get old and frail, you can stay home and explore your own country in comfortable circumstances.

I've always been a bit of a risk-taker, I'll admit up front ... so put me down for being somebody who would not be afraid to tour another country by RV. \ken

I don't think that I would have any concern taking my RV to Mexico if it looked like this:

Exactly, soon enough you are restricted to home. Americans seem to be a lot more insular than Canadians and unwilling to explore more. Juts an observation and it accounts for the fact that you see Canadian RV'ers outnumber Americans in mexico by about 4 to 1. It is a totally different country 200 mile south of the border. Where in America do you see teenagers hanging out with their parents in a town square on a Saturday night? I can't stop on the side of the road for lunch or for my dog to pee without a Mexican pulling over & asking if i need help. The times I have needed help they wont take money. I got lost in a cornfield when I took a wrong turn a few years ago. A guy in a beat up old pickup showed up and escorted me 20 miles back to the main highway. He refused $20 which was probably 3 or 4 days wages. You hear the same stories form a lot of folks. All that stuff disappeared in America & Canada in the 50's.
