Tampa Supershow: do they rent electric scooters?

DW has a foot injury. It looks like they rent wheel chairs at the show, but will they rent electric scooters?

Hi MikeGriffin,
They rent wheel chairs and golf cars. No scooters that I know of. If you bring your own, you will need a handicap placard and proof of insurance. The show LEOs will be as irritating as possible for those with a mobility device and no placard or insurance. The fair must protect their golf car vendor to maximize his profit.

I'm a bit confused. Are you saying one needs a placard for their mobility scooter? That is the three and four wheel battery operated devices that go about 4 mph max?

Yes, I have seen scooters (4 wheel) for rent at the show in the past.

Hi YC1,
My comments are for those who bring their own motorized transport. If you rent from the show, this does not apply.

Yes, you are correct. Anything motorized requires a placard. The show rules are clear. Enforcement of the rules is vague and is done by private contracted show LEOs. In addition, the enforcement seems to change every year. We have a 1/2 size golf car and a scooter. Both fore the wife. Some years the show LEOs are a PITA and other years they do not bother us.

If you have a placard, the show can not stop you from bringing your own motorized transport. ADA law(s) took care of that.se who being

It seems to me a "open to the Public" event is covered under the federal disability act which the vendor is required to comply with regardless of their Golf Cart rentals. In other words, if you are disabled, and need a mobility scooter, the show cannot legally stop you from using it and doing so would be a violation the federal disability act.

Wb2IVU, we went to the show last month. They did rent electric scooters for $50/day (they usually run out of them before noon) and wheelchairs for around $30. I saw quite a few people in what appeared to be personally-owned electric scooters.

An update. The show does rent golf cars, but only to businesses. They do not rent golf cars to private individuals.

Hi Wb2IVU,
You are correct. ADA does come into play. To prove ADA status, one would have their disabled placard with them. A copy of my wife's placard is fastened to our Cricket (1/2 size golf car). Prior to doing this I was harassed by the show LEOs. Now I am not bothered.
