The 6 Second Garage Door Break-In You Can Prevent

I came across this today and I am posting it as a Public Information notice for all iRV2 members. When we're away from home, for extended periods, this might happen to any of us with a garage door.

Thanks for watching .....

Good grief...seems like there is always someone out there with a plan to steal your stuff - gets really tiring.

Good video BTW, thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for sharing.

We always disengage the emergency release latch & then slide the side locks into the tracks whenever we're away. I also don't understand the attraction of all these "carriage-style" garage doors with the windows in them that are so popular now. Yes they let light into the garage when the doors are closed, but they just call for opportunists to look inside to see what you've got, notice there's an entry door to get into the home or shimmy a coat hanger inside to release the latch. No windows for us.

I always release the emergency latch and put two C clamps in the roller tracks when we are away.

Both of my garage doors have a switch on the operator wall switch to turn them off. I have screw type openers that can't be opened unless you unlatch the screw operator. If in doubt just stick a large screwdriver in the track. Just remember it's there when you come back home.
Let's face it, if someone wants in they will accomplish it. I have redneck neighbors that watch for strangers (nuff said) and a cop that lives down the street.

Older garage door openers had a limited number of frequencies and someone with a code scanner can park nearby when you leave or enter your home and pick up the frequency. Newer openers frequency hop and change every time you use the opener so scanners can't duplicate them.

Here is something scary. www.hackerscatalog.com Just shows how easy it Is to make life difficult. Click on "home brew electronics" then "jammers and scanners".
