The Boat

I bought a 2012 hybrid in excellent condition, 21/25 feet that I love. Hubby does not like camping, he finds it boring. He mentioned pontoon, so I looked at one. It was beautiful. But I would have to sell the TT. After a few days of thinking, there was just too much that a pontoon didn't have that a TT does. So I ended up thinking about what would need to be done to be "TT-like,and realized it was an awful lot. Electric run off a battery and inverter if you want electrical, an enclosure for nights w/o ac or heat, no charcoal grill. etc. It was the thought of having one, not what the pontoon had. I just wanted to fish. Hubby does nothing at all.

It was sad not to buy one. But too impractical. Plus an enclosure for nights that cost $4k that would most likely be sweltering.

So in order to have a small boat for my amateur fishing, it would have to be like a lightweight 8-12 foot dinghy or jon boat, and electric trolling motor. That would get me out of all the tributaries that lead to the gulf, and ability to use the gulf when calm-which is frequently.

Now, how to I carry about that weighs 100 pounds, and can be strapped somewhere on the pickup or TT without a roof rack? I was thinking of one of those "basket" carriers for bikes on the back of the TT. My pickup truck bed is 6 feet. I may be able to carry a 9 foot boat in my pickup. (so easy)

Any comments or experiences or advice would be appreciated.

Inflatable kayak for 2?
37 pounds deflates to a compact size and you keep the TT.

Tell hubby you want a motorhome so you can pull your new fishing boat.

Then they still have the problem of a vehicle to drive around when parked. My parents found out quickly that it was a necessity to drag a toad along behind. Most states don't allow a triple tow setup.

We now carry a 12 ft jon boat on a roof rack, but for several years we used an 8ft Sundolphin boat that fit in the pickup bed if one end rested on the tailgate. This enabled towing the TT without the boat hitting it when we turned. Weighs 100 lbs.

Did it for the same reason - DH is bored with "just camping."

If He finds camping boring...May I suggest he rents a pontoon boat few times before buying one...pontoon boats aren't exactly the pinnacle of excitement

I have a pontoon boat I'll sell him. Use it twice a year. The TT twice a month.

The idea of renting is really valid. Much cheaper than owning, and no headaches.

Take a look at Hobi -Cat, they make a 1 and a 2 person kayak that is pedal powered,, light weight and easy to handle.

Thanks. You all really had some good things to say.
I would like to see how bored he is after a day or 2 in a pontoon.
We went camping once. It was in a big park on a Monday and not many people around. My daughter suggested going to camp at places that are more lively than state parks.

No inflatables. I do have a hard sided boat on the list. I got the electric motor and battery charger, the battery and box to put it in.
All I really wanted is to get off those fishing docks . But fish during the day and go back to the TT to fire up the grill.

I think the pontoon idea is like trying to pick out a mink coat-in Florida.

lgarcia, I think the truck bed thing will work.

He will never get in a small boat.

He has no reason whatsoever to be bored. He "thought" he could run the tv, laptop, fan, etc on that pontoon. But he can't. He hates the heat and complains about it all the time. He doesn't like company. He can barely walk and can't lift. So I tell him I need to learn how to back up the TT, and he gets mad that I don't let him do it. But I will end up doing everything . I think I may be going by myself at some point. I had reservations at this absolutely wonderful place, I got a spot right next to the fishing dock and the fire pit. I was supposed to go with my sister and hubby, but they both ended up unable to go. He didn't want to. So I cancelled. I look today and that spot is reserved for a few months!!! The water is right there, (Withlacootchee river).

Thanks for listening to me whine.

There's plenty of girls camping solo(including those who go as a group) and many that are great at controlling a vehicle

Have you heard of a porta boat, I think that is what they are called. I have seen them at rv shows and they fold up and have brackets that mount on the side of your trailer. They are also fairly light weight. May be worth a look.
