Being an old truck driver....here is an old truck driver trick

Coat the entire front of your vehicle with Easy Off oven cleaner, did it for years runnin down there.... never had any adverse effects to the glass or paint.

On Friday we drove from Sopchoppy Florida down to our home below Lakeland and encounter few love bugs. Yesterday we spent the day moving my daughter into her brand new home in Plant City, the outside of the house was covered in love bugs! So many flying around that we could not leave the doors open while moving the furniture in and had to have two little nieces on bug catching detail inside the house. They hatch out quick.

As for the gnat line, I have had a hunting camp in Ga. for 22 years southwest of Macon and we have never been bothered by gnats. Now last year we attended a funeral in August 100 miles to the east and were given old fashion hand fans at the graveyard to keep the gnats away and believe me the fans were waving.

A friend of mine's son works for UPS, they spray the front of their trucks every morning with WD-40. In the afternoon when they return from a days run he tells me that a water hose will rinse off the bugs without scrubbing, they have been doing this for years.

My Reflex should be in tomorrow...washing front and applying before heading out on Thursday. I saw me an un-mated Lovebug today(Southeast Texas)...it won't be long.

Love Bugs

For the last two years, before heading North from Florida, I use some plastic wrap like they use to wrap around the boxes stacked on a pallet so they can be shipped. It is about two feet wide and mildly sticky so I go from side to side starting just under the windshield (I have a DP so no front radiator). It takes three or four passes to cover the front. You can use tape on the ends on each side if the plastic is not sticky enough. When I get far enough North to be free of Love Bugs and stop for fuel, I peel off the plastic and I have a clean front end. The windshield will have to be cleaned along the way, possibly several times, but if you use RainX the bugs come off the glass fairly easy.

This weekend traveled to Waycross, GA. Picked up a few along US1 in Georgia. There is a few flying around the campsite and some on the white paint of the RV. I bet they will be swarming by next week. Being a florida native, they appeared around 1964 in NE Florida.

The secret to not having them stick to your windshield is to fly slower than they do!!
