Some people actually like the party atmosphere of spring break, and want to camp on a beach at that time of year. People often pay more than that for a campsite in NASCAR infields.

What something is worth is a personal question based on each individual's circumstances. Many people feel that $30 is too much for a campsite and instead sleep in Walmart parking lots, and yet then spend more than that eating dinner at a restaurant. There is no right and wrong way to spend money on luxuries once the necessities of life are covered.

Decent campgrounds aren't any cheaper than motels in congested areas because a campsite takes a lot more real estate than a single hotel room in a multi-story building.

Hahaha! And you can drive 25 miles south to Tillicum Beach (Yachats) and stay at the Forest Service campground on the beach for $20.

We were always thrilled by getting 1/2 off a national park site using our old geezer pass.....like $6 for a spacious campsite with awesome scenery.

Wow ! so the $74 a night I paid a few summers ago in Myrtle Beach SC. was a deal. And that included that counties (Horry) "bed tax". I didn't understand why they charge me a bed tax because I was bringing my own bed (s)? I first thought the check in lady was joking.

I have the Golden Access pass, but our rig takes a little more space than they have at most of the National parks.
Did use it in Hawaii some years ago though to get into Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park and no we didn't have the MH with us!

I'd say that's pretty danged expensive! Although I've spent anywhere from $150-200 staying just 1 night in Wal-Mart's out lot. Does that count?

Seems like RV park prices correlate pretty closely to hotel rates in the area - and usually seem to run around 30% of the going hotel rate. A quick look a Trivago for hotels in that area in Spring and Summer (which are the periods when Camp Gulf is hitting the $190+ a night rates) - comes back with alot of hotels in the $200+ range. Camp Gulf is definitely ahead of the curve in that regard at what looks like 80% of the going hotel rates.

Note too that the $190+ rate is for beachfront. ... and they're not kidding about it being beachfront. Your front wheels are on the sand ... with nothing but about 200 ft of white sand between your windshield and the water.

Gotta say though - Camp Gulf is definitely a nice park. We spent 4 nights there earlier this month and paid $117 a night for 4 nights. Way more than I would usually consider - BUT, it made my DW happy to be right on the beach.

The rates at Camp Gulf are highly dependent upon the part of the park you are in. The beachfront spaces are water and electric only (NO pets or sewer on the beach due to COUNTY regulations!) and are, of course, the most expensive. The next ones going away from the beach have a concrete parking pad and full hookups and are less expensive than the beach sites.
The mid park areas have more grass and larger spaces and the upper spaces are in the area closest to the highway and are the largest and most comfortable.
We spent 8 nights in the upper park in September of 2015 and absolutely loved it. The campground workers were all very pleasant and the multiple bath houses were nice as were the laundry facilities.
Use your Good Sam discount (they may take others as well) if you are staying less than a week.
Although we seem to be in the minority, my wife and I loved it enough that we already have our reservations for Sept 2016!

Check out the campgrounds in the Palm Springs / Indio area during the time of the Coachella Music Festival, or the Stage Coach country music festival. I saw that Shadow Mountain Charges $900.00 for a 24' wide spot with up to 6 people, or you can get a 16' wide spot with up to 4 people for $600.00 for the weekend. You then have to take the shuttle to the event which is another $76.00 per person for the weekend. These rates do not include your admission to the events.
