Two years ago I was able to drop a TT/Leisure Time membership by paying up the dues and then sending a certified letter stating that I wanted to drop my membership. Each membership is different. The most recent which are zone memberships are easy to drop just don't pay the dues the next year. Previously many memberships required that you pay dues for 10 years before you could cancel. Years ago they sold lifetime memberships and would hold you to either sell or pay the dues forever; but there was a lawsuit that forced them to drop that position. You need to call TT to find out just what your contract has. If you just stop paying it is possible for them to turn you over to a collection agency.

We had a TT contract that we needed to get out from under. We were able to find someone willing to pay the transfer fee and assume the contract. We did not receive any compensation other than that. A friend had a contract with TT that he was convinced he could get out of by sending the certified letter and not paying dues. He was extremely upset as the account was sent to collection anyway. I have not talked with him for a while so do not know the outcome, nor details of his membership. Best to get everything in writing and read your agreement carefully.

A word to the wise, be very cautious and read all the fine print before getting tied up in one of these deals. We got in a three year program, when it expired we did not renew...just glad it was only three years and not one of the long ones.

My ciontract appears to say that I can stop making payments and forfeit my membership, i.e. I could no longer use TT facilities nor could I sell it. Any previously owed dues would still be owed and I suppose they might well send any outstanding balance to a collection agency.
