Santa Monica, California police will now ticket vehicles over seven to eight feet in height. New signs are posted on all roads leading into the city. Los Angeles residents are up in arms about it, saying the undesirable rigs will now make their way into their neighborhoods.

Do you really want to visit Santa Monica with your motorhome, or otherwise for that matter?

Just another reason to stay away from the Republic of California. Way too many restrictive rules and regulations.

We avoid California for these restrictive reasons. I wonder if this affects their economy.

Looks like it only applies to parking in certain areas of the city for safety reasons not aesthetics.

Yeah - it sure doesn't sound reasonable or enforceable in anything other than specific areas - way too many delivery and service vehicles that would be affected - as well as the merchants and other customers they serve...

But I sure agree with the "stay outta California" mindset - we hate to go there even long enough to visit our kids...

I don't think there are many hemorrhoid specialists in California.

Too many perfect (moderator edit) there for my liking.

well you can camp ALL YEAR LONG,and don't have to put antifreeze in your
water system yuk.
Its a great place to live you can get away from the rain in the winter,
not like some pleases up north and away from the snow like back east.
the sun is always shining somewhere in California.
and the people here are the same as anywhere else every state and country's has (moderator edit)

Yep, these are the same thoughtful folks who run you down roller blading on the sidewalks. Guess they figure 1.5mil for a condo gives them a rights to above and beyond the lowly peons and other lesser persons. Didn't care for the Santa Monica area some 30 years ago. It has only gotten worse not better. And yes it is the People's Republic of California.

I wonder if the Mayor has a vehicle higher than that.

And what is their "logic" (justification) for such a policy. State law likely says you are legal up to 13'6" (may be only 12'6" on a motor home. )

How can they ticket an 8'er when it's legal by the state vehicle code?

I love to visit CA and have many friends there who wish I would move out there but it's just too darned expensive. It's cheaper to just commute between AZ and there.
