Tire Question?
Not sure where to post this question as one of the last ones I had got moved twice and like most, I don't want to violate the posting and placement rules. Late next month we will hit the 4 year mark on out Itasca 35F. As I'm not wanting to get caught later down the road with having to replace all six tires at one time, and even though I only have 12k on the current tires, I'm giving thought to buying two new ones later this year and replacing the front tires and either saving one to use as an unmounted spare or move them to the back if in better condition than any of the 4 rears and then saving the better of those as a spare. I've got a rack on the back that I could modify to carry an unmounted spare. Sorry for the long narrative and now finally to the it's point, would like some thoughts and/or suggestions on the above idea.

I'd put the tire money aside and wait at least 3 more years. Replacing 4 YO, 12,000 mile tires seems purely a waste to me. Especially if the only reason is financial management. If you are afraid you can't keep your hands off the money, buy a 3 year CD.

Gary gave you a great common sense reply. Sometimes the fear factor gets out of hand.

I routinely put the fronts on the inside duals when they start showing scrub wear, and put the inside dual on the front. (all my 450 tires are steers). Then, when they scrub, put them on the outside duals. This way, I get over 80k miles to a set of 6. But these are 19.5" tires, yours may be larger.
I also would follow Gary's suggestions.

I'm with Gary -- start a tire fund. You may find the tires will wear evenly and you can save yourself the expense of rotating tires.

Exactly! Put what you would be spending on the two tires now in a safe place. Then when it's time to replace all six, you'll have that to help. You'll even make a few bucks in interest if you put it in the right place.

Thanks, think I take the route of just putting the money back. Still wondering if I still should invest into a spare. Have heard too many horror stories about getting gouged on the road.

What size are your tires? Some sizes are easy to find and some aren't.
