Yep! I contacted a seller on rvtrader.com about diesel pusher in LasVegas. After days of emails, I told him I would drive to Vegas to inspect the MH, he then said the MH was presently in Evansville, IN., I repeated my stance that I woud drive to Evansville, and emails suddenly stopped.
I posted this to irv2 immediately afterwards(2012) and a woman replied saying her and DH had already sent a deposit on the MH and never heard from the seller again.
It does happen everywhere. OH, a few months later I saw pictures of the same MH on different website.

How to spot Craigslist scams How to Spot a Craigslist Scam: 5 Steps (with Pictures) - wikiHow
1. Look for the broken English. The vast majority of Craigslist scams come from foreign countries.
2. Watch for flowery language. Most Craigslist scams use a lot of apologies, religious references, rambling about family problems.
3. Do they offer you more money? The classic Craigslist scam recipe is the bad check. Offer you more money and ask for some in return. For example: "I can't come over and take a look because I have something I need to finish for work. Since the item's still up for sale, please email me your details (full name, contact address, email and phone number), so that I can issue the payment via cashier's check. I'll also arrange for the pick up." The person then sends you a check for too much. They then ask you to reimburse the additional amount but the cashier's check is a fake.
4. Watch out for sweet talk. They can't meet with you, but are certain you are a good person. There is always some reason why the Craigslist scammer cannot meet with you. That is a big red flag.
5. Be aware that they will always show a sense of urgency. The basis of any Craigslist scam is to get you to act without thinking about it. Especially if they ask for a “deposit.” [END OF WIKIHOW LIST CREDIT]
6. Low price to appeal to greed. “Wow, if I jump on this bargain right away I am a genius.” You know the old saw, “If it sounds too good to be true, . . . “
7. The price is an odd amount (normally for big ticket items). Who places an ad for a 2009 Mustang for $2,014? Either someone who made a typo or a scammer, that’s who.
8. Only one or two photos for a large ticket item. This ad is normally placed by a scammer or someone who doesn’t have the least idea of what they are doing. Why waste your time on either one?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Seller Alert! This may not involve a Craigslist scammer (you will never get this far), but never trade a piece of paper for a signed vehicle title or physical possession of a large ticket item. What do I mean by a “piece of paper?” By this I mean a check, cashier’s check, money order, or bank check. With today’s technology, many official-looking bank checks or cashiers checks are counterfeit, or may be forgeries. Meet the other party at either their bank branch or yours (preferably yours) during lobby hours so that you can verify the check and sign the title or bill of sale in the presence of a bank employee. Also, the bank employee will verify identity of both parties. Trade copies of each others’ drivers licenses, if possible. Of course, redact the license number.

We just sold our Forest River popup this week on Craig's List. The guy drove 2 hours from Denver to make the deal, and paid cash. We probably undercharged ($4500 for a 2012 model) because we simply wanted it gone. It had a couple of small (2-3 inch) tears in the fabric where the bed slides hooked the inner fabric, and a couple of other minor issues - none of the defects affected function. We had been trying to sell on local lists (Facebook, newspaper classifieds) since last fall, and finally put it on CL 2 weeks ago. Just glad to be rid of it, and still made $500 more than the dealer would give us in trade.
I don't look up the law here in Colorado, but I took our plate off after the deal was signed, and he towed it home with no license plate. He did have the signed title and bill of sale if he was stopped.

- If the ad picture has the contact phone number superimposed over a pic of the RV, it's a scam.
- If the price ends in a weird # like $24,672.00 it's PROBABLY a scam, they use different ending numbers to identify the CL that you are responding to.
- If they offer to "ship it to your house for you to inspect" it's ALWAYS a SCAM!
- If they tell you that you will need to pay via "Ebay Escrow" or "Paypal Services" it's always a SCAM.
- If they ask you where you are and then the RV is located somewhere else, way out of the area the CL ad is posted, it is LIKELY a scam.
Bottom line, if I can't see it and touch it, and verify the VIN and Title paperwork, no money changes hands. It's really pretty simple for people to protect themselves.

I am adding the last two on your list to mine. Good list, Hit_the_Rhod. Will I owe you royalties now? http://www.irv2.com/forums/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Some people are getting a duplicate title then going to a car loan place and getting loan, then selling the vehicle giving the owner the title that says there is no lein. Also second car places sell a vehicle they bought on revolving credit. When they don't pay off the vehicle you now have to pay it.
You have to go to bank to give owner check for his safety, then to DMV to make sure title is clean.
That's not a craigslist problem but good to know. I've bought and sold many things on Craigslist.
Love it!

to me
Hello, my name is Juliana Hoskins, happy to see you are interested in my motorhome.
This is a beautiful 2002 MONACO EXECUTIVE MODEL 40 DS, 2 SLIDES, TAG AXLE, 42 FT TURBO DIESEL PUSHER MOTORHOME! Rare To Find! Good Miles!!! Powered by 500 HP CUMMINS TURBO DIESEL motor on ROADMASTER chassis that runs strong, and the automatic 6 SPEED ALLISON transmission shifts smoothly. Motor starts and runs really good. It has a Onan Quiet Diesel 10000 generator with only 649 hours, that starts and runs good. It is equipped with front air conditioning and TWO roof A/C units. Winegard satellite antenna, solar panel, rear backup camera, electric step, full outside basement storage, outside shower, Lp gas, Aqua hot system, black/gray/fresh water tanks. Cruise control, Abs, jake brake, towing package, tag axle, full body paint, ladder, and many other luxury features.
Please note I have provided a lot of detailed pictures for you to get an adequate idea of the condition of the Motorhome...
This motorhome has a Texas Salvage title. If your State requires, I can provide you with a clean blue TX rebuilt title, within 2 weeks, after payment. If you have any questions about the rebuild title, you can call your local State DMV. The price was reduced at $23,000. I have purchased this Rv from Insurance company. Refrigerator caught on fire. Fire has been put down right away, and there is no damage to the inside of the Rv. The damage was only to the refrigerator vent on the roof, and couple of inches on the front of the vent. Roof has been repaired by a professional fiberglass shop, and the vent had been replaced. Refrigerator needs new coolant unit. There is no smoke odor, or other odors inside of the Rv.
If you have any other questions, or need more info please feel free to ask.
Thank you
Juliana Hoskins

to me
Kerry, this is how eBay's escrow service works:
1. I will contact and give them all the information regarding this deal.
2. They will email us the official form once they acknowledge and confirm it.
3. You will send the escrow payment to eBay and they will trigger the automated shipping to start.
4. After you inspect/drive the motorhome trailer and decide to keep it, eBay will release the funds to me after you take legal ownership.
Remember you have 5 days to test it. If by any reason motorhome is not as described or if you find any problems with it I will pay to get it back to me.
I work odd hours, email works best so please bare with me - sometimes I cannot respond immediately. I will try to check it every time I'm free and give you a response as soon as I can. A little patience and I think we both can get what we are looking for. Hope you can agree!
I need to know if you are interested so I can ask them to send you the official form for this sale. If "YES" please include in your next email your contact info for eBay (full name, shipping address /billing address and phone number), so we can move forward with this transaction.
Thank you!

I've received the exact same scam in NY. Gets irritating. Can't imagine how the legitimate sellers feel. I know the vast majority of fakes here have 4 or 5 random words at the end of the post.

Those words may not be as random as they appear. They are often included to make the document show up on search engine results which have little or nothing to do with the document itself, just to get more exposure.

I will add one more. If anyone wants to pay for a purchase with a US Postal Money Order, I tell them, fine, just be here during the week and normal business hours for the Post Office. We can drive up there, you can present the Postal Money Order, get the cash, and hand it to me!
I can't tell if a cashier's check or US Postal Money Order is real, or a fake printed with a high tech printer!
