Get a portable Progressive Industries Surge Protector (30 or 50 amp) whatever your RV has. It does a lot more than just check for surges! We plug ours in at the campground pedestal and lock it with a bicycle lock around the pedestal and the surge protector. Would rather lose it than the transfer switch or electronic in RV. Progressive Industries gives a lifetime warranty also. Google Progressive Industries or Camping World and you can "read all about it."

If to buy or not to buy is the question.
The answer is BUY.
Cheap insurance for all the expensive electronic gear.
