Even wrote make sure drinks do not get empty" in the tip spot.

I worked in many service jobs way WAY back when, and felt very slighted and disrespected by the dudes in expensive suits that left little to nothing after the cook and I provided our very best. I was grossing $1.25/hr back then. Guess the boys had to make a boat payment.

The best tippers were of lower financial means.

Long before I got my head above water, I respected and showed proper appreciation for the delivery of good services.

I tip more than most will. A great meal gets....well more than most would tip. A good meal gets at least 30%.

The higher end of service workers are a bit different, but not much. The guy just changed your tire! 10 or 20 bucks wont break you if he got you back on the road.

And, no, I do not pre-judge the timing of service. Some folks assume the folks are waiting for THEIR call but may have had 2 calls stacked ahead of you, aye?

I dont care if the tow truck or tire service or whatever service folks remember me, respect me, or talk about my tip. But I bet they will.

If they provide the goods, I provide the tip. It is the principle of the thing, and that is just the way I roll.

Proper tipping has never bent my bottom line. You?

I tip when the service exceeds my expectations or my last experience. Tipping is my way of reinforcing behaviors that have value for me. My wife and I will send flowers, candy, Incredible Edibles, pizza to people that we do business with, because they take great care of us when we need their services. And by recognizing them for the "above average" services, we continue to get "above average" service.

Except for restaurants, I only tip if someone does something above and beyond the job description that they are paid to do.

If someone is charging me $100.00 hour, and completes the job, no tip needed. I already paid them. But if they do something extra, I will
tip, every time.

There sure are a lot of cheap RVers out there. Coaches worth $100,000 or more but they park in WalMarts and don't want to tip.

Every service person I ever gave "a lousy 20 bucks" to expressed sincere appreciation, and sometimes pleasant surprise.

For most blue collar workers, like myself, 20 bucks means something. A tip is meant to be a demonstration of my gratitude for a service, not a ostentatious display of my superior income.

Of course if the person freely did more additional work than what would be normally expected for what they were already paid for, I would add in another $50-100 an hour depending on the nature of the work.

Actually my coach is worth 30k and I've never stayed at a Walmart and I tip anyone who's earned it.

I don't know if there are a lot of cheap RV'ers out there, but there sure do seem to be a few out there who judge others solely by their financial status.

Let's not forget that no small number of us are living on a retirement check. Anyone who's read a newspaper in the past ten years knows that most people on a fixed income don't have much extra money to throw around carelessly.

Raining Star - I apologize. My remarks were intemperate and imprudent, and it was wrong to make them as a "global observation."

My wife and I are retired teachers, and we have an 8 year-old used coach which we are incredibly proud of. But even that makes us far more fortunate than many hard-working people. We have all read accounts of how service businesses are keeping employee hours just below a full-time status to avoid paying them benefits. There is a marginal society out there, and somehow I feel that if my good fortune in life allows me to make someone feel just a little better (if even for a minute or two and even in the smallest way), then I'll give it a shot.

When I get excellent service, I find that I desire to tip the service provider. There are times that a simple "thank you" doesn't seem adequate.
