What a shame. We've never heard of this problem but I think your problem was your installer. After putting that much money into the whole system I'd definitely have someone do it correctly.

WA and CA use the same braking spec, OR is tougher but still a performance spec. The one fly in the ointment here in WA is that there must be a way for the towed to hold itself in place for 15 min on any normal highway grade. It must be automatically deployed too.
So, you might be able to stop within the specs (I know our rig can) but still required to have brakes to hold it in place when disconnected.

Also, there is no reciprocity on braking laws, you most be legal in every state you go into, not just your home state.

When we bought our new 1988 17' Type B MH we didn't haul a towed, just broke camp and drove it. Got the new 1997 24' Type C, a surge braked dolly and towed our '95 Odyssey. Have never really gone anywhere without a towed since then.

I am a new member to this site and I have a question. I have been researching the viability of towing a mazda miata mx5 2012 prht. I have info that base plates manufactured by roadmaster are only available for models up to 2011. Is it possible to make the baseplates for a2011 model fit a 2012 model without interfering with the fascia?

See if page 7-29 of your owner's manual for the 2012 Miata matches what I found on the Web:

Recreational Towing
An example of “recreational towing” is
towing your vehicle behind a motorhome.
The transmission is not designed for
towing this vehicle on all 4 wheels.
When doing recreational towing refer to
“Towing Description” (page 7-26) and
“Tiedown Hooks” (page 7-27) and
carefully follow the instructions.

No way would i go without a plan "B". (A toad) My main problem is that while living in Germany for the last four years. I bought a Caterham 7 sports car and a Mercedes GLK250 4X4 diesel to tow said sports car. Now the wife and I are wanting to explore RVing. Can't tow a 4matic MB unless it's off the ground. So we will need a trailer. Actually we are researching a short 18' stacker trailer to take the Benz & the Caterham along. Both vehicles total only 5,500 Lbs. I'm not willing to give up the 2014 Benz that we got a super deal on ($35,000 new) Or the 41MPG it gets on the road.

I will let a few pictures answer this question for me... All of which obtained while on RV'ing trips, but none of which could be had without a toad...
