Toilet water level

The water in the toilet is slowly draining leaving the bowl empty and ball valve dry. I've checked carefully that's there's nothing stick to the ball or the surrounding area. There are no air bubbles exposing where the leak is coming from.

I'm hoping someone has idea for a work around to do an "on the road fix" until I can get into better place to work on it next week, or have it serviced if the job's over my ability.

It sounds like the rubber seal needs replacing!

Hold the valve open and rotate a toilet brush around to clean the crud out of the seal. That is likely to cure the problem. (some folks like to tie a string on the brush handle before trying this to ensure they don't drop the brush into the tank !!!)

Try putting a packet of toilet stuff and let it melt. Then flush. It worked on my last rv.

That's the plan when I'm back home. The brushing now seems like it's worth a try.

90% of the time, cleaning the seal will solve your problem.

Some toilets tell you to put hot water in the bowl, let it sit for a while, then flush. The hot water softens and re-sets the bowl seal. Google your type of toilet, or look in the owners manual if you have one for solutions to a dry bowl.

Lubricant on the seal itself? I'm not understanding how that would effect the seal. Can you please elaborate?

Does it expand the rubber, or act as a filler, or what? I'm not picturing what it can do.

I'm grateful for the suggestion but really need to know more.

It is possible for the ball valve to be dislodged at the pivot points. If this is the case you can reach in and re-seat it.

There was a recent thread, that I can't seem to find, that suggested you can use creamy peanut butter to temporarily moisten the toilet's rubber gasket. We had a great deal of fun with that thread, but the OP said his seal was still holding for weeks with the peanut butter treatment.

It doesn't seem to be out of place, if it is it is by a truly tiny amount. The water almost wicks out sloooowly, with no bubbling.

Well I only need one more week, so I may try it because I can at least see how it might act as a filler.
We are finishing an eight week 7000 mile trip and pulling the commode in a campground isn't my idea of a vacation project. AND if I screw it up it's going to be a very long last week, and 900 miles, without a commode.
