We would like feedback on what vehicle folks are using to tow trailers weighing 7,000 pounds.
We are currently looking at a chevy suburban. Our only experience is with towing pop-up campers using smaller tow vehicles.
We are considering purchasing an airstream safari 25 ft model. Info from folks that have airstreams would be helpful.

campguy, first let me say welcome to our website and forum. Although I do not own an Airstream, the dealership that I work at do sell them and I can think of several of our customer that are using the Suburbans to pull their 25' Airstreams and a few are towing even larger trailers. The Airstream; because of its areodynamic shape does tow well as I am told. Good luck in your research and decision.

We tow our 25' Airstream Excella with a 2000 3/4 ton Yukon XL (read Suburban). Yukon has the 6.0 Liter engine with 3.7 rear-end. Previously we towed it with 1998 Ford Expedition with 5.4 Liter and 3.7 rear-end. Both were quite adequate, but the increased power and wheel base length of the Yukon does seem better. Do put stabalizers on towing unit, however.

We tow a 31' Airstream ---

Our friends tow an Airstream like you are thinking about - they have a 1/2 ton Suburban. It is all the vehicle can do to handle the trailer -- they wish they had the 3/4 ton size.

My truck doubles as a camper -- park the trailer and take off in the truck for short overnight trips. Needless to say, I have no towing problems and no tow bars, anti-sway bars, etc are needed.
