Traffic light ticket
Can you believe it!! I got a ticket in the mail today from the City of Palm Coast, FL running a red light. I remember it vividly. They even sent the pictures of me before going thru the intersection and after going thru it. Guilty, no doubt. Not sure if I looked away or wasn't paying attention, or the dang thing went to red without the yellow. One thing for sure, I was not going to slam on the brakes and create more problems than running a red traffic light. BTW, there were no other vehicles sitting at the opposing angles that would have created a real danger. Otherwise, I would have assumed someone would have come out of the side street and broadsided me.
Has anyone else experienced this problem of the traffic light changing so fast that you cannot stop safely?
Dave

I just read this week in the Charlotte Observer that some cities are cutting the time of the yellow lights by 1/2 second and that just by cutting 1/2 second off the yellow time, the Red Light camera's could generate hundreds of millions of extra dollars nationwide.
It's all about making money, I'm sure they are concerned about our safety, But The # 1 reason is $$$$$

I would not be surprised to find out it is all about the money. Which BTW is $158. And they take MC, Visa, etc.

I have read just recently that the state of Florida has shorten the yellow light on the intersections that have Red Light Cameras setup to increase their revenues.
Maybe they want us to stop in the middle of the intersection until the light turns green again.
Thanks for supporting the Palm Coast FL municipality!
BTW, where were you staying while in that area?
When on the east side of the country, one place I like to hangout is the Flagler Beach area. My brother and SIL own a mobile in the Surf Side Estates across from the Beverly Beach Camptown RV Resort on the A1A.

We usually stay at Bulow Plantation campground or International at Daytona Beach. Not real happy with either of them, but the selection is limited for 42' HM.

One of the few things I like about my Rand McNally 5510 is the ability to upload speed and red light camera databases. I always update before a trip. It saved our butts in Pensacola earlier this month. And yes, it's all about a lucrative revenue stream. Anyone who tells you it's about "safety" works for the municipality or the camera company.
What I don't like is private enterprise acting as judge and jury by proxy. I'm sure this is a constitutional violation, but hey, that hasn't seemed to stop anyone.

There was a story on the radio in Atlanta several months ago about red light cameras. According to this reporter, the intersections with red light cameras had more rear end collisions. According to them people were slamming on brakes and getting rear ended. If you think this is about safety and not money, I have a bridge to sell you.

Yes, FL did reduce the length of yellow lights. http://www.washingtonpost.com/cars/f...f7c_story.html
Last year Florida Judge Ruled Red Lite Cameras Unconstitutional.

Governor to sign new law. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/...,7663093.story
With out of state plates, I got camera flashed for speeding in Tuson AZ and received a letter that stated "This is not a Bill" If you know the individual in the photograph, please call XXX-XXX-XXXX or visit w.w.w.XXXXXXX.
Needless to say I exercised my right to say nothing and recycled the letter.
Always do your research before you pay any kind of camera ticket.

Did you know, a lot of the red light cameras are owned and operated by a contractor? In Brick Township, NJ where I recently worked, each camera cost the township $4,300 per month, per intersection, per approach. That means each camera must generate at least that much in tickets just to cover the cost! But don't worry. With just 3 intersections camera equipped, and after all cost, the township netted $684,496 last year!

Our family was attending a wedding in Phoenix a year or so ago. My daughter got caught in a Red light cam. The ticket was sent to our house because her US license is from our address but she lives in Byron Bay, NSW Australia. The info on the ticket indicated the length of time the yellow was on, I did a little sleuthing and found it was too short for the speed limit as per Arizona DOT. I also found out that all traffic tickets in Arizona have to be served in person by an officer of the court. Instead of trying to argue the ticket, (only allowed in person, not by mail) I suggested my daughter and her husband should wait until a deputy shows up on their doorstep with a summons. They're still waiting.
