Traveling after hip/knee replacement

Those who have had a hip replacement, how long was it before you could drive a motor home, set up/break camp, and take hikes without any pain or discomfort? Even after being able to get around fairly well with somewhat discomfort is there ever a time you forgot you even had a joint replacement?

I had a hip replacement right at a year ago and still have to move slow for the first few steps getting up from a chair or first thing in the mornings after getting out of bed. A lot of the discomfort is more so in the muscle between the knee and hip with very little actually in the hip location itself. Very comfortable sitting or sleeping, and no discomfort at all driving, just have to get out and stretch more often than before.

Before the surgery I was reading on the Internet about recovery times and it showed about 8-12 weeks afterwards. But as Clinton might have said, just what is meant by recovery. Just barely able to get out of bed or able to run a 1/4 mile without stopping. I was using a cane at 12 weeks but gave it up completely by 24 weeks. Thought by now I'd be running.

Just wondered how the rest of you got along with your replacement.

Here is a recent thread where a lot of members discussed their recovery times.
