Truck Shocks
Not sure which forum to put this in. Hopefully this will do. I own a GMC Sierra Diesel 2500HD with about 100,000 miles on it. Never replaced the original factory shocks. I also occasionally pull a 26 ft Jayco fiver. Anyone recommend a good front and rear shock for this truck? Any help here would be appreciated.

I put Bilstein's on my 2010 CMG crew cab and they work real good. if your still running the factory shocks at 100,000 miles you should notice quite a difference.

Rancho Shocks have a good reputation. I installed KYB shocks on my Ram after I purchased it. Originals were worn out till they offered no resistance when you compressed or extended them by hand. The KYB mono max is a good shock.

The standard shocks for a 2500 ought to be fine for its rated load, so any shock designated as a replacement for the factory shock ought to be adequate. And noticeably better than the 100k old ones.
It probably came with AC/Delco shocks but Bilsteins are the most common replacement. You could go for a higher-end shock like a Rancho or Koni, but I don't see any extra value in that. And pulling a trailer doesn't put an extra load on the shocks, not any different than any other cargo. The suspension carries the weight, not the shocks.

I installed Bilstein 5100 shocks on my truck at 113,000 miles. I had Rancho shocks on my Jeeps and I think that the Bilstein's shocks are just as good. I was never really impressed with the Rancho shocks.
If I still did serious off-roading, I would go with a set of Fox shocks.

After 100K your factory dampers are doing nothing whatsoever. Install a set of Bilsteins, you will be shocked (heh) at the improvement.

I put Rancho 5000 shocks(Sears installed) on my 02 dually 4X4 @ 53,000 miles. They have a lifetime warranty, and greatly increase stability and handling IMO. I sold the truck @ 163,xxx miles, with the 3rd set of warrantied shocks(cost-free) on it. I pulled a 15,500# 5er for almost 80,000 of those total miles. When I sold the truck the buyer said it rode great and handled great.

I've always loved Bilstein shocks on my trucks. 4600 and 5100 are the same shocks, just different length stems for lifted trucks on the 5100s. 5100s are prettier though, if that matters to you.

I put Bilstein's on the last truck, an '06 F350. They were a bit on the harsh riding side. The current and sig truck got KYBs which have not been as harsh in comparison (plus are not the gaudy yellow and blue color of Bilsteins). Either will do the job along with Ranchos which which I had on a long ago F350 4x2

When I had my 05 2500 Silverado Duramax lb I used after market and ended up going back to the OEM.
