Truck signs- which ones to be concerned with

When driving a 14K GVWR RV, I assume I need to be concerned with road signs designated for all trucks, correct?

There are several streets I need to travel down that have the standard No Trucks sign.

Do I need to be concerned about being fined driving down these roads even if to get to a private residence?

You do not need to be concerned about such a sign. You are not a truck. Unless you see a sign warning or prohibiting a certain weight rating you should use the street the same as any other non-truck vehicle.

The one sign of that type I pay attention to is the one prohibiting the use of an exhaust brake.

The ones I see downtown in Baltimore have the above image and 3/4 ton stamped below it. So I am guessing I am ok to travel those roads to the stadium?

Just a word to the wise- Not all streets with such signs have their trees trimmed as substantially as their commercial-rated counterparts. Pay attention to your fifth side!

Yep, mine is too, like blubblublubblub. I just don't want to have to give that explanation at my ticket hearing.

Laws vary from location to location but in MICHIGAN When they say "Truck" they mean "Displaying a TRUCK license plate" so since a motor home displays a CAR type plate...... That said.. There are roads I truly do not want to take this house down (Size and clearance issues). But legally under Michigan law this is one great big car when it comes to truck restrictions.. Under other parts of the law there are differences, but .... Well.. As it happens I do have the MICHIGAN vehicle code handy.

That is 1/51th of what you need to know to drive an RV in the US. (And you thought we only had 50 states right... Washington D.C. is the reason for the 51, not a state, and not part of any other state either, It has it's own vehicle code).

Maybe it's differnt where you are but the signs I have seen say Unmuffled Engine Brakes which doesn't include Exhaust brakes and if you have a muffler you are still OK.

Yes, I'm sure they differ from state to state. Another sign used is No Jake Brakes.

Agreed.. In Chicago an El Camino is considered a truck due to only having 2 seats. You WILL get a ticket on Lake Shore Drive.

In Indiana, my Aerostar cargo van was also called a 'truck' due to only having 2 seats..

We also have a 'RV' type of plate.. whether that restricts you are not, I dunno, but I would heed the '5 ton' bridge signs

The name "Jake Brake" got it's name before the exhaust brake. It was an engine brake probably built by Jacobs Co. Now some call exhaust brakes Jake Brakes and the ones built by Jacobs would technically be right but the truckers mean engine brake when they say Jake Brake.

What I think is funny is driving behind some Truck Stop Cowboy that uses a Jake Brake in Town.
The other day I went to the market and watched this clown with his Jake Brake on for about 6 blocks what a jerk.

Not sure that I agree about him being a jerk. A diesel does not help in the braking process as a gasoline engine does because of its design. That is why the Jake exsists, so leaving it on has some use even if towns dislike the noise it produces. However I suspect that it is easily forgotten when moving from country to the town. I cannot hear mine working as the engine is 40ft behind me. I do not always remember to reach down and turn the switch.
