Turn signals don't self cancel so....

My 2009 Freightliner Columbia turn signals do not self cancel. At first I thought they were broken but that's how they were designed. I'm OK with that except that there is no audible signal indicating their still flashing. I am looking for a device that I can wire into the turn signal wiring that will give me a mild/adjustable audible signal.

Sound broken to me. Are you positive about that diagnosis?

Yes, positive. I actually bought a brand new assembly and did the same thing. That's what prompted me to call Freightliner and ask them. (Didn't even consider they were never broken)

I installed such an item on an elderly customers car years back who was hard of hearing. It is actually quite simple, visit your local Radio Shack store and they have very tiny piezzo buzzers (12v), quite inexpensive about $8. To install simply unplug the turn signal flasher and insert the bared red wire of buzzer into one leg of flasher and reinstall flasher, friction will hold the wire in place, then take black wire and attach to a suitable ground. Each time the flasher operates the buzzer will chirp with each flash.
Having said all that, now if memeory serves me I did see some time ago an aftermarket flasher that chimed when engaged, but cannot remember where.
Hope this helps.
Cheers

Reminds me of a joke

This (insert ethnicity or graduate of college of choice) truck driver passed another truck. The passed truck flashed his lights and the passing truck turned on his turn signal and pulled back into the lane, kept going to the right through the borrow ditch, tore down 75 yards of 3 wire barbed wire fence and finally stopped in the middle of a cow pasture. The passed driver stopped and went running over. He asked " are you OK" The answer was in the affirmative. So, he asked what happened. The (insert ethnicity or graduate of college of choice) driver said, "My turn signal stuck."

I did some online research and need to verify my actual flasher style. There may be a simple flasher upgrade, although unlikely. As soon as I get it out of the shop I'll take a looksy.
