Tybee Island ?

Going to Tybee next week from Wilmington, NC and was thinking about taking 17 South all the way. Has anyone done that recently and how was it compared to 95 S

A bit slower especially through Charleston. Did it a few months back and enjoyed the ride from Myrtle Beach. You will hit I-95 just north of Savannah.

Tybee Island should be pretty quiet this time of year. The biggest problem we had was no where to park without paying to see the "real" beach, not the river beach.

17 south of Savannah was fine. We did not do 17 north of Savannah.

I guess it depends on how much in a hurry you are and what you want to do along the way. We've gone both ways, but most recently (last month) we took US74 over to I95 and down to Brunswick, GA. Can also branch off on 76 and hit I95 at Florence if you like.

17 is a decent highway, but you have to skirt around Charleston (unless you want to visit there anyway - we often do) and pass through Myrtle Beach region too (another place we sometimes stay a day or two).

So if getting their quickly is your main goal, I95 is probably the better choice, but if traveling at a relaxed pace then US 17 is a nice alternative.

17 wanders rather a lot, 95 is straighter and faster.

I'm 4 miles off 17 (Darian area) just now,, I'll be going to Savannah on Friday and I'll cross 17 something like 3 times on that trip (I will be on 95)
Home is where I park it!

17 is a wonderful road with pleasant sights along the way. There is a lot of Americana to be seen when not on the freeway.
When we travel between Brunswick GA and Myrtle Beach, 17 is our route. Stopping at the busiest Q joint at noon is always a nice break.
