Ultimate caulk removing tool
Rather than try to hand scrape the caulk/putty around the skylight with a putty knife, I bought a rigid knife attachment for my Rockwell Sonic Tool. I wasn't to sure it would work since most of the blade accessories you but have fine teeth for cutting. Worst case, I'd be out $20.
All I can say is WOW!!! It was like cutting butter with this thing. Not to mention I could shave off as thick of a piece or as thin of a piece I wanted. I was done removing most of the caulk around the skylight in about 20 mins. It went faster as I got the hang of it.
A few pointers I learned along the way.
1). Start the tool on a slower speed until you get used to how its going to cut. I would also recommend the blade be sharp.
2) Don't try to remove a huge amount in one cut. I found out the hard way when I accidentally cut into the rubber roof. Fortunately it was real close to the skylight so the new putty will seal it.
3). Most important: Take your time. If you go to fast you could cut into the rubber membrane.
Ive enclosed a few pictures.

Great idea - I have some caulking to remove on some deck railings at the S&B. Come on over and test it for me to see how it works...only 19 of them to do. Once you've finished, I may have to go buy one of them there things....
Looks like a real time saver!

I did remove some of it, but only in the areas it wasn't bonded very well. I think the people that had it before me didn't do a very good job of prepping the area. Thus not bonding very well. I plan on redoing the area with Dicor self leveling sealant.

They can carefully be used to remove Dicor no-sag and the runnier variety. I've also used then on the EDM rubber roof. By far the best method in my opinion.
Also makes window removal a very simple task with little cleanup.
Like any power tool - just be careful as it can take off more than desired.

If you are going to buy a tool for this job, spend a bit more and get the battery one...

This is one of the handiest little things I carry. I put a lttle hole in my rubber roof the first time too. But a little eternabonbd tape and I was good to go.
The saw blades work well too- safe and very controlable with a little practice. I bought the single speed Harbor Freight model years ago to remove vinyl from a concrete floor. I figured to burn it up on that job but it is still going strong.
I'll get the variable speed model when this one dies.
