Upgrading Storage Compartment Lighting

I’d like to upgrade the lighting in my outside storage compartments. Each compartment currently has white pancake light fixtures with one 1156 automotive style bulb in each fixture. I always leave each fixture switch in the “on” position, as there is a master switch inside the MH. It’s easier for me to just to switch all of them on at once. This will eliminate the need for individual light switches in any modification that I do.

Here’s what I’m considering doing:
  • Remove all of the pancake fixtures, leaving the wiring intact.
  • Buy a 16' roll of cut-to-length waterproof white LED’s on Amazon, along with a needed supply of strip connectors.
  • Affix LED strips to the compartment ceilings, along the entire width of each compartment.
I’m thinking the key to this will be in doing some good prep cleaning of the ceiling surfaces and choosing an LED product with a high quality adhesive backing.

I realize it would be a lot easier to just replace the 1156 bulbs with LED’s, but I think the full width LED strips might provide better lighting. I’d like to get some feedback from those that have done something similar.

Thanks!

Craig

It will work great. I just used the strips to replace all my interior fluorescent tubes and the glue on the strips is very good.Go for it.
