We purchased a Shark Rocket HV300 vaccum. This is a great little machine with lots of suction and the price is right. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Shark-Rock...HV300/28919227

I order the bags from Amazon. No need to hunt for them. I don't use the hose kit that came with it, I use the Vroom RV retractable hose kit. The hose is built into the larger hose that runs to the vacuum. It retracts back into itself so there is no hose to store. The extension pipe and brush head store in an otherwise awkward, dead area under our sink. Like I said, it's not a Kirby, but it works just fine for the four of us in our rig.

We have a cordless Electrolux. Not recommended. Barely enough suction and small storage capacity.

I also use the Shark Rocket HV300 for deep cleaning, otherwise, I love my Roomba for quick, easy cleaning.

I had used a small shopvac for heavier cleaning, when I got the Shark I really didn't think it would do very well. I first used the shopvac then immediately used the Shark Rocket. Had to empty it three times before I finished. Now before you think I keep a dirty house, remember I had just used the shopvac to go over the same area the Shark Rocket just did a much better job at deep cleaning. Now between the Roomba and the Shark Rocket, I only need to empty the Shark once per cleaning.

We have had the Dirt Devil in two past RV's with all of the attachments including the beater and while they are OK, don't come near ability the little Eureka 'stick' or Shark that we have been using in the current 5er - both from either Walmart or Amazon. I do use the big shop vac a couple times a year then shampoo the carpets. Amazing, that even after a good vacuum job how much crud comes up with the shampoo job. If limited for space, I, as others noted, would go with the Shark hand held

We (read DW) have a Shark, the one with the power unit on the hand grip end. It has all of the attachments, including the powered floor brush. This particular one is corded, but others say the rechargeable ones have plenty of power. We don't mind the cord, and this unit is a little cheaper than the rechargeable ones. Highly recommended. My DW uses one of these:

Its a Dyson DC44 Animal Vacuum, available from Amazon and many other retailers.
Our coach came with a built-in Dirt Devil but it virtually never gets used as the Dyson does a better job and its easier to manage.

I got one of these and went to a vac store for a floor attachment.

Our rig came with a Dirt Devil and frankly I find it less than adequate and the hose barely reaches the front steps. They also installed an outlet in the storage bays, on the drivers side so it can't be used to do your car under the awning.

My wife turns the Roomba loose in the RV and it is amazing how much that thing picks up. I initially thought the Roomba probably wouldn't clean well but it sure does. She also uses it in the house - she's pretty happy with it so am I, if she's happy everyone's happy.

She had been using a Hoover upright and she says this cleans better. The carpet sure looks better. They are pricy little things - got this one at Costco.

In addition to central vac we also have a handheld Dyson. I haven't really ever been a fan of Dyson as they seem expensive and plasticky. BUT... this thing really sucks up the dirt. It's great for smaller touch-up jobs where you don't want to get the hose and attachments out. The only drawback is the 6-minute runtime on the high setting.
