Vacuum recommendations

Anyone have a particular vacuum make and model for the MH carpeting? One that does a decent job and stows well?

Dyson has a very small cannister model. It will take chrome off a bumper hitch. The cannister is maybe a foot tall. It is narrow and has large wheels. The main tube will collapse into itself. There is a vacuum driven rug beater head that I thought would be a joke but it does an awesome job. It seems to pick up finer dust than our full size Dyson. The cord retracts with the push of a button. You can hold the vacuum in one hand and the wand in the other for cleaning vent fans etc. Not cheap but the wife insisted we buy it. We have a built in vacuum that I thought did a reasonable job but this definitely outperforms it. I removed the built in one completely and gave it away. The plastic seems indestructable on the new one. I am the only one that has used it and am reluctant to tell the wife how great it is. I know little about vacuum sheenery.

The vacuum has the ability to clean the riser on steps without turning it vertical. I wouldn't use it around small animals though. It will suck them inside! I liked it so much I ordered another one for the house.

We have a small canister vac from Oreck - came in a bundle with upright vac - gets the job done. Also keep a battery powered dustbuster handy for quick cleanups.

No doubt the Dyson is a good product. We've got the DC41 animal for the house and it does a fantastic job. For our motorhome though, we got a Hoover Nano from Walmart. I think it was maybe $50 or a little less. I usually research such items, but didn't with the Nano and I'm not dissapointed at all in it's performance. It's got a belt driven brush, detachable hose with crevis tool and brush and bagless dust/dirt bin. It doesn't collapse down very small, but it's small enough to fit in the closed and very light weight. Only complaint would be the foot switch is a little delicate. Ours broke pretty quickly requiring you to use your finger to turn it on and off.

i worked in the floor care industry for over 50 years and in my experianced opinion the dyson is the most over priced, under quality and expesive to repair with only a limited parts suppy (you dont replace parts you replace assemblies).
my reccomendation would be a 1 gallon shop vac and a hoover,eureka or royal rechargable stick vac with a revoleing brush
total investment less than $100.00 and the shop vac is wet/dry
and my reccomendation is not about the money it is what works

We have the Dyson also. It is small and does a great job. A little pricey, but well worth it. No bags to replace, very easy to clean & store.

What model Dyson do you have?

We have a battery powered Shark stick vacuum with a powered head that works really well on the motorhome carpet. Stores easily (about where a broom will), cordless, does a great job picking up dirt and cost less than $100. Have not used the central vac since we got the stick vacuum.

We tried an Oreck, it clogged on pet hair constantly and had to be partially disassembled after almost every use. If you don't have pets it would be a good choice. I'll sell you ours for a good price, plus shipping of course.

We use a dyson DC-41 in our house, and a Eureka windspeed. The Eureka sucks like crazy and actually cleans as well as or better than the dyson. But it breaks belts about once a month, the roller/beater bar is soon needing replacement, it's hose handeling apparatus is clumsy, it's big & very heavy, and it is noisier than a 747 taking off. It will not last long.

I have not had to replace a single part on either of the dysons.

My DW loves our Dirt Devil whole house vacuum that I installed in our Executive. I put it in a bay below the bathroom and plumbed it up into the toe board there as this was the most central part of the MH. It came with a 25' hose and now it services front to back with ease. Cleans well and has a power brush attachment as well. Hose stores under the sink and is out of the way. Bags are a bit pricey but I usually empty them out a few times before I replace so I get double the money's worth.
