We took our motorhome into a local dealer today to give us an estimate on some body work and the guy that's doing the estimate was telling me about several companies that had gone out of business and that they couldn't get parts from them anymore. So far I've called three of them and they said they are still operating and have the parts. They are Carefree of Colorado, Velvac mirrors and Monaco for Holiday Rambler Endeavor body parts. Does anyone know anything about this?

Thanks,
Amanda

I think your source is either pulling your leg or uninformed.

I can't speak for Velvac, but I've talked to Carefree myself in the past two weeks on an awning issue and they are very much in business and then, of course, Monaco's assets were taken over by Navistar following their bankruptcy in March of 2009 and they are still very much in business, and maintaining the Holiday Rambler line as well, although they have also discontinued a few lines, at least for the present.

Of course the industry has lost a lot of vendor sources in the past two or three years, but this guy may just be trying to give you excuses for his failure to get you the parts you need.

Amanda, A lot of what might be called bottom feeder companies in the RV business indeed have gone out of business, As an example perhaps a manufacturer that made the bolt or the special screw to hold the components together of a larger sub assembly are out of business. As a result all the larger fish are suffering because the little guy couldn't stay in business.

This situation will resolve itself but it will take a little time to work itself out.

I had to purchase a mirror from Velvac last year & they were ok then, had exactly what I need & shipped it next day. if only Power Gear would treat customers same way!!!
