Baby monkeys are afraid of anything snake shaped -- vacuum cleaner hoses, garden hoses, odd shaped sticks. Sena still goes ballistic if she a rubber snake. I have used that as an advantage to make certain areas off-limits.

I think fear of snakes is a matter of instinct in all primates and many other animals.

We don't allow advertising here on the forum but I can tell you that if my DW ever saw that scene my last post would be about a DP parked at some CG that was free to a good home.

Road Runners will also tackle a snake, including rattlers.

Dachshunds were originally bred to go into badger sets and drag them out. I'm thinkin' knowing where the business end is instinctive.

One of them grabbed the gopher from behind and shook it. Ever see a naked gopher?

Yeah

Plus, Roadrunners are so hard on Coyotes, California's posted "falling anvil" warning signs for them...
Now if they could only teach the coyotes to read!

I blew up the photo (using an Acme Photo Enlarger) and it said, "Acme Anvil Co." on it.

I'm beginning to think I owe the snake an apology for bringing this up at all!
