Volvo DP ?

Why doesn't Volvo get in the DP market? Or do they? I now drive a Volvo powered class 8 truck at work, it gets better mileage than our Cummins 400 ISX, and really has less problems... This is a big company, we have a couple thousand Volvo powered trucks, compared to many thousand Cummins... Can't afford a DP,,, just wondered... Ours are a D13, 425HP.. Runs good, pulls good, quiet,(more or less) smooth, etc.

What problems are you comparing between Cummins engines and Volvo engines ?

I guess I should say first I LOVE the Cummins engines !! These I was referring to are "high mileage" engines, much more so than a DP would have. But seems like right about 500K miles, you'll lose the turbo, then the injectors will start going away, one at a time. When it starts blowing steam out the exhaust like an old train, you replace the egr cooler... etc... I was just wondering why you didn't see Volvo engines used in DP's,,, ??
Except for Ed's above,,, a Mighty Fine looking rig I might add ! Love the looks of the Volvo's.. !

Late model Prevost conversion DP's have Volvo's. The renegade is a great coach but not a DP.

Ah ok... Thanks... I see from your sig you have a Volvo automatic transmission. That's what the work truck has that I drive now. (12 speed) Can you manually select the gear you want ? All I can do with this one is "lock" it in whatever gear you catch it in... The 10 speed Allison's that are behind the Cummins now have the ability to select or manually shift the gears by a up/down switch... Wish this one had that...

It starts in 3rd every time unless I select manual.
Once in manual it will do whatever I tell it to do - up to the rev limit- just rock the 'cobra head' back for down and forward for a up shift.(it will skip shift in manual or auto because it can sense the load)
I usually select manual on (up) hills to stop a up shift, coming down if the jake is on it will down shift as needed to maintain rate of decent. Fun to listen to all the drama. I dont have to double clutch and rev match ,it just does what is needed like a team of gnomes down there under my feet pulling levers and spinning wheels.

Thanks for the info.. You sound like a trucker.... Some day I'd love a DP...
