I seen these today going through Oxford, AL. There were three of them, last one pulling a small trailer. I haven't seen one of these in 20 years and I got to see three at once. Made my day.

My neighbor rebuilds/refurbished these. He is mostly focused on the newer ones rather than the aircooled. There are usually 6-10 in his driveway or parked down the street.
I had a 1969 Westfalia and '72? The first one had a 1600cc single port that I later replaced it with a 1835. The last one I'm not positive of the year but it had a 2liter with a/c.
I think the water cooled ones would be much better. Had to constantly work on my older ones.
It is unusual to see 3 in a row, must have been a car show or something in the area.
