WA Ferry problem - Coupeville

The ferry coming into the Coupeville dock ran aground and damaged the hull. It's being repaired at the dock so the other boat on the route can't get in. Haven't seen any notification of possible restart date for the service.

UPDATE:

I checked the Ferry system's web-site and there was no mention of this problem. I went back to the ST site and checked. The story was posted 08 July. Sorry for my error!

As stated, the problem was July 8. They had it resolved in a couple of hours. The hull had to be inspected but there was no damage. We have not heard what caused it but that harbor is very shallow.

You're welcome, Fred.

The initial report in our local paper was that the ship had sustained a 3-foot gash in the hull. Presumably, it wasn't that bad!

I've learned to check the posting dates of stories on newspaper web-sites!

Next thing to learn is that the media "creates news" rather than reports it.
It's called, sensational journalism, helps sell papers !

It's all about circulation, and catchy headlines. I've never heard of a journalist who let the truth get in the way of a good story!

Just a heads up for the next few weeks

Two of the larger class boats are out of service for maintenance and one has a blown engine. Schedules have been altered and two smaller boats taken out of the reserve fleet to help fill gaps. This will mean fewer vehicles on vessels and longer wait times. If you are planning on using WA Ferry for the rest of the summer get your reservations as soon as you know your travel dates. Chancing it, especially on the San Juan runs might leave you very disappointed.

The new WSF reservation system has made a big difference to traffic patterns in Anacortes. For 15 years, every summer weekend developed at least 3 mile back-ups all afternoon on the road out to the terminal. With only 10% of the space not reserved, the back-ups are within the terminal approach road, even on national holiday weekends.

It's made an even bigger difference on the islands. It used to be that you needed to be in line by lunchtime if you wanted to get home that night.
