I wonder if anyone has approached them about carrying a better assortment of RV supplies. Sure we laugh about them being the largest overnight RV park chain in the world, but lets face it, a lot of RVers do spend the night and a lot more shop there.

With their buying power they should be able to provide good RV products at good prices, not just the hand full of RV stuff they now carry.

Might have to e-mail them with the suggestion, I am sure we would all like the convienience of having WalMart carry a larger selection of RV stuff.

Maybe the reasont they don't have a better selection is so they WILL have parking for their other customers!

Duh!, never thought about that, we (RVers) can do a number on a prking lot real quick, only takes about 4 of us to block parking for a good 50 cars.

A few years ago Walmarts did have a more extensive Rv section, i.e. more shelf space devoted to RV stuff. Since they have cut it back, I have to assume sales did not justify the larger amount of space.

Walmart (and other big retailers) track the sale of each and every item very closely so they know exactly what sells and what does not. Items that do not sell frequently have to be marked up higher to cover their share of fixed costs, which defeats their low price advantage over specialty stores (Rv dealers, in this case). Walmart leaves such items to other stores and concentrates on filling their shelves with fast-turnover items.

I have never stayed on a Wal-mart lot over night, but do spend lot of money there. Would not feel a bit bad taking up little room at night when business slows. Super center in Hazard, Ky. keeps very few RV items, I like store in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. keeps good supply.

At first your thoughts on this sound real good, but then I start to envision the typical Walmart and of the 10s of thousands of items they carry, not all are "fast movers".

Add to that the fact that their current buyer hasn't a clue as to what RVers want, as evidenced by the number of 50amp to 30amp pig tails on their shelves, I mean when was the last time you went to a park with only 50 amp service???

Sorry but I disagree, I believe that with the right items on their shelves for RV they will be "fast movers" especially if they stick to stores close to major interstates and tourist attractions as I suggested in my "feed back" e-mail to them. RV dealers and camping world currently have a captive audience that they could quickly loose with some competition.

Thats my opinion anyway, wishfull thinking maybe, but would be nice to see items for RVs at a better price and not have to hunt for a camping world to get them.

I think that RV'ers as a group make up a very small percentage of Wal-Mart customers as do boaters etc. That's why they have big hunting/fishing, automotive, arts/crafts, etc. sections. While we may think we have LARGE numbers of members here on this forum, we are smallfry compared to the rest of Wal-Mart customers whom they give first priority to serving.

Note in previous post "in stores close to major interstates and tourist attractions"... I am not suggesting that every walmart in the country expand their RV supply display, as muc h flack as I am catching about this post, I guess you are happy paying the higher prices at CW and the dealers.

Don't think anyone is directing answers directly at you alamo but just stating opinions. You have a great idea and I for one would like to see some competetion in the RV aftermarket industry. I wish Wally World would jump on board.

I guess I am the od guy out here. I wish Wal-mart would go out of buisness. I have watched them move into town an ruin several good stores.

Example is north side Jacksonville FL. Prior to the supper center we had four very good grociery stores. The supper center came in with lower prices. Put three of the four grociery stores out of buisness, then Wal-mart raised their prices to be higher than the stores they put out of buisness.

I am now watching the same thing happen in Athens TN, the supper center has been here for five months and we have lost a good grociery store. We are soon to lose another.

I am no fan of Wal-mart. They put good companies out of business, or force them to move thier produciton lines over seas, Levies comes to mind.

Wal-mart is one of the largest employeers in the USA. Yet the have the worst benifits of any major employer. They also strive to keep people just under full time so they do not even have to pay those benifits. They are so generous they give their employees a full dollar an hour extra to work a Major holiday.

I have a child who works at Wal-mart. So I get a 10% discount there. I have never used it and never will. In fact I get a 20% discount until Dec 5th as a perk for my daughter. I will not use that either.

One last foot note before I shut up on the subject. Mt latest Camping World magazine states they have 640,000 Presidents Club Members in the 20 or so states they currently have stores in. That averages 32,000 members per state many of which only have one store.

640,000 is a lot of customers in any business especially one that only operates in 20 states and that number is only their current membership, not all of their customers.

Hey Snipe (USN term) sorry about your stores, I know they do have adverse effects on a lot of smaller businesses.

Dave,

You are right about W-M putting other stores out of business. On the other hand, it was the malls which killed downtown shopping.

Cities like Memphis, Galveston, Burlington, Vt. and many others have to re-make downtown and in some cases it is a 25-30 year project. Burlington however has done a terrific job, as has Memphis.

If I am not on the road, I do not shop at W-M, however if I am parked in one on a trip and I need a quart of milk, well.......
