I sure am sorry to have aggravated anyone, that was not my intent. I just prefer folks that exhibit some rudamentry manners. I guess I am getting to old. Manners and politness are almost a thing of the past. Folks please accept my apology. This was the wrong place to vent.

I have stayed in rest areas (never been bothered, but noisy) and I have stayed in Wal-Mart parking lots. I much prefer the Wal-Mart parking lot both for safety and convenience. I am not sure that I have ever stayed in a WM parking lot where I did not remember something I could use.

I think it was the "stupid people" reference..... I don't mean to sound condescending, but we all live and learn. It takes a big person to make a big apology, Chuck. Way to go!

My question is: would you feel safer at a freeway rest area or a WM parking lot? I feel WalMarts are much safer for resting at night.

This coming summer we plan to start our Vermont vacation in Northern VT., so I plan to exit the NY tollroad near Utica NY. and take route 8 across the state towards VT. Are there any good stopping spots there? In the past I would pick a quiet area to park at a rest area away from other parked vehicles for a few hours of shut eye. I'm not sure if NY has any laws against parking like this, but I view it as a safety issue. If I start dozing off while driving and towing a RV, it is time to get off the road, period. I always worried about someone wondering around the parking lots looking for trouble.....you never know these days...This is why interstate rest stops were built, driver safety, but trust your instincts here.

Some might say why don't you find a campground. Well, It's usually well past midnight, so finding a CG open and setting up would be too time consuming. Stopping at a rest area and laying down is just a time saving issue.
Me too.

No problem Steve, is it me or has the thread taken a turn to overnighting confessions? So if it's not the proper thing to do, I guess I'd better come clean too, without a doubt I'm the worst offender so far.
Well let's see now 1st year 2006 we used the rest areas, didn't know it wasn't allowed but no one bothered us so that was 4 times , Wal Mart twice and we did find another WM on the way home. So that's 3 WM's and 4 rest areas. On the second trip same year we did 4 Wal Marts and one shopping mall.
Next year 2007 our third trip we did 11 Wallys but the following year we stayed home.
This past summer we did 20 Wally overnights on our trip and two on the lot of a closed out Motel. Now our stays at any of these places is usually 10 to 12 hours max, we pull in in the evening and leave the following morning. I can't recall once where I didn't leave a good lump of $$ at each store.
Now our little home away from home has no jacks and no awning, no BBQ, we do have those folding camp chairs but haven't used them yet. There is one thing that I now do and that is to ask, and I haven't been refused yet.
Anyway here's a Wally link I picked up on another forum enjoy
