We're in central Florida, at first reports she was predicted to come right for us after making land fall by Miami. I'm happy to say that didn't happen but I do feel for those in her path.

I was hoping to start more posts with my question regarding Irene.

I went to Walmart today and bought a belt to hold my pants up.
Does that count?
I stayed there about 30 minutes.

I think it would only count if you were asleep for some portion of that 30 minutes...

I was considering taking a nap in some of the long checkout lines. 24 checkout lines and usually 2 or 3 open. Sigh.

Sorry, sleeping at Walmart checkout stations is a privilege reserved strictly for Walmart Checkers...
You'll have to nap out in the lot like the rest of us Walcampers!

That's where you rest after being up since 4 in the morning.

The heck with Mal-Marts... Rude people.... they won't let you put your jacks down, awing or slides out, or dump your tanks in the drain... They also won't deliver chicken wings to the RV and it's only outside the store! Also, they get very upset if you "barrow" a picnic table or chairs.... Besides, they have all kinds of trucks honking their horn at you all times of the night when you park in front of the loading docks. Totally rude and un-called for...

You can park for free in a motel parking lot and get free WiFi, ice and use their pool and gym all for free. Heck, some even give ya a free breakfast just for shown up!

Sometimes it's where you rest when you've been up UNTIL 4 in the morning, Sadiebug!
And thanks for providing me with the perfect lead in for my latest Real, True, Walmart Story! :

I recently took my granddaughter to camp in California- a considerable distance from home.
We only had a couple of days to get there and naturally wanted to stop at every tourist trap we could.
With that in mind, we left Hadlock Friday evening, planning to drive straight to the Oregon Coast and sleep in a rest area upon our late arrival.
That way we'd wake up right in Tourist Trap Heaven, rested, ripe and ready to be divested of our money!
But...
When we hit the Oregon Coast we discovered that
All of the rest areas were managed by State Parks, and NONE allowed overnight parking!
And mind you, we had NO intention of spending our Tacky Souvenir Budget on campgrounds.
In disbelief we wandered south, pulling in at stop after stop- no dice.
Aliyah, having slept for awhile, awoke around 3 a.m. and joined in the desperate search.
(Side note: I was a bit miffed that, even though she was better rested,
she wouldn't take over the driving. Darned 11 yr. olds!)
By this time it was literally after 4 in the A.M. My only hope was to try not to die of sleeplessness before dawn, when I could LEGALLY pull into a rest area and REST!
And then- there, appearing in the Oregon Mist (rain) like an Oasis in a really wet desert-
!!!The NEWPORT, OREGON WALMART!!!
We both saw it at the same time, and yelled its blessed Name in Unison!
Brings a tear to my eye just to think of it...
We swooped into the parking lot and by 4:30 were sleeping like babies!
And by 10 a.m., rested and revived, we were plunking down our admissions at the first of many tourist traps-

But that's another story...

Once again, a huge , Walmart!
