Two trips to the major Wally-World this PM. Purchased all but two things on my 'mental list.' CRAP, AND BACK I GO. Doggies are giving me a 'what the hell look as I put them back in a AC'ed home.

Walk back in the door and one of the checkers looks over and waves: "What did you forget?"

She laughed and asked 'What did you forget and need someone will help you find it.'

I agree....why stir the pot? They leave it up to the local manager and that's the way it should be considering that in some area mall jurisdiction and local ordinances trumps the corporate policy. We really don't want all the high priced campgrounds fighting with a corporate policy that we requested. Leave it alone and enjoy the thread.

I appreciate your tolerance in this manner. My wife and I JUST purchased our first Class A, a 37' Mountain Air. The salesperson suggested we take it to a local Wal-Mart to practice on backing up and to get some time to get used to the vechicle; I thought it was a great idea.

Over the years I've noticed RV's on Wal-Mart lots and my wife and I joked about those people 'camping' in the lots. We weren't sure it was allowed to spend the night and just 'assumed' they were trying to slide by. What I mean by that was these RV's looked like they weren't leaving anytime soon.

How ironic that now I find myself grappling with the issue about whether or not utilize the Wal-Mart lot. I do appreciate the many responses and from this newbie's point of view I do and don't list, whether it's Wal-Mart 'official' or not. Remember a lot of you have been doing this for a long time and some of us are very new to this. What you take for granted, spending the night at a WM lot, is something I wouldn't have thought of until reading this thread.

Also just remember that common sense isn't as common as you think

In our town, Walmart (Fort Walton Beach) is across the street from a campground. Well it is a little south of that camp ground maybe 2 blocks. They will not allow overnight parking, probably due to said campground. Walmart (Destin) is also across the street from a state park. They also will not allow overnight parking. reasons were people dumping waste tanks on the tarmac. I do not think the state park has anything to do with that restriction, as you almost have to have a three month reservation to get in there. I think the local churches would welcome over nighters to stay in their parking lots if not hindering parking for services. A call to the church office phone which can be found on most signs out front will confirm the availability of a place to stay. A monetary donation before departure would be appreciated as well. Safe travels. Don't drive distracted or drowsy.

Another successful trip, another night at Wal mart. We spent the past couple weeks in the upper Penninsula of Michigan, and on the way home, we spent the night at the Lincoln Il store. When i asked for permission the lady said just park around the outside of the lot. Ain't life wonderful? Cranked up the genny, made dinner, played on the iPad and slept 8 hours. As I drove on the government interstates, and the DW complained about all the construction, I thought God bless Ike, and the IRS. Next april, I will just write the check and shut the heck up.
I know I wil receive flack from the Michiganers, but I had never thought of Michigan as a vacation destination. Maybe too much Detroit hype. What a beautiful state. Living in th emiddle of the US, it is a good drive to get to a beach. There are beautiful beaches in the UP. I have Two questions. How many 8 mile roads are there in Michigan? And 8 miles for WHERE?

We use WM as a backup plan if there is no rest area close by on our travels. Have stayed at a few, but usually also need supplies, so it becomes a win/win for WM and us. Simple courtesy and common sense go along way.

I agree with Bill & Claudia of Wilmington. Leave it better than you found it! I round up stray shopping carts & pick-up trash on my way through the parking lot. I also shop at the few Walmarts I will be passing that has allowed me to take a rest-break from my travels. The Walmart manager at Leland, NC (just south of Wilmington) was VERY gracious when I asked permission to rest for a few hours several years ago. I now plan my trip supply purchases for his location anytime I will be passing by. It may not be much and I'm sure it's not known by him; but I think it is the right & fair thing to do. One should never forget the kindness of strangers no matter what our lifestyles or situations.

I have had only one opportunity to stay at a Walmart and that was in Pecos Tx. The manager was quite polite and only asked that I park on the side and not take up any marked stalls.

This is confusing. How could you you not park in any marked stalls unless you were in the drive lanes. Maybe the lot was so big that it had unmarked areas on the perimiter. We were told to park on the perimiter of the lot, on either end. The stalls were marked and with the toad, we took up about 6 parking spots. We stopped about 9:00, shopped, ate dinner and played on the iPads until about midnight. We got up, ate breakfast, shopped again and when we left at about 9:00, the lot was maybe 1/4 full, but there was not a car anywhere near us, so we certainly weren't in anybody's way. There were probably 4 empty double lanes between us and the closest lane with parked cars. I thought about firing up the grill and making steak and eggs for breakfast but decided against it. Just kidding.
It was pretty warm and humid, so between running the genny most of the night and the two shopping trips, I didn't save any money, but WM was 1.2 miles off the Interstate. Very convenient. Thanks Sam. I'm not in love with all of their business practices, and I have some social issues with WM but I am a loyal customer. It's tough being a conservative liberal.

Many Superstores have truck parking and staging on the side and they may have been referring to that. I have been directed there before.

Headed out on our annual trip to Lake Powell. We will be staying in Mesquite for the night, but can't stay at their WalMart due to city ordinance . The good news is we can stay in the casino parking lot and I always win enough money to pay for the trip

I agree with you totally, i appreciate the use of Walmart parking lot and i don't abuse it, slides in, awnings up, jacks up.
I almost always end up spending some money while i stop over there.
it will only take a few to ruin it for everyone.

I've stayed at one the had truck and RV parking marked on the pavement with LONG stalls .
Some rest areas have handicapped RV parking. Followed a trucker into one, he couldn't use it but I could. Kind of felt bad as it was the last stall and he needed the rest I'm sure.
