Well just got back from an overnight at a Wally. Stayed on the night of the 23rd and then again Last night. We stopped for a lot more than a few hours rest in fact after I asked for permission, we stayed from late evening until after the store opened the next morning, maybe 10 to 12hrs each time. I will say we did have a good nights sleep.
Folks, you don't have to apologize for overnighting in places other than a campground. If someone other than the property owner has a problem with your overnight parking then it is their problem, I'm sure there are many psychologists available who can help them with their phobia.
Cheers
Willey

WOW, you must frequent different Wally Worlds than we do. I see shopping carts full of groceries being pushed to the RV's.

I'm sure nobody will dissagree that at times we just drive to late or find there are no Campground close by! And yes, when one is tired, a nights sleep at a gravel pit of maybe a dumpsite is better than nothing! And even to some its a freebee! What makes such a place so desireable, is the nice grass, the woodsy atmosphere and the water and sewer & all that give you the chance to take a shower after sitting in the same shorts all day! And I do use that gift from others when it makes sense! I only say, its nice untill the city ordences and the Wally folks that make their rules and have to pay extra Insurance and Security, not store managers, see the abuse by some, and we have lost the whole deal! As we know, many Wallys have already stopped us and it wont get better! Then when so many Campgrounds sell to developers from lack of support from RVers, we can all find refuge at a Wally! I nor anybody stops or even looks down on what ever floats your boat! Its just reality! God Bless See you at Wallys, we can have a cookout! Allegro5

As you accurately say, abuse by RVers is one of the reasons more and more Walmarts are banning Overnight RV Parking. It's not the only reason, but it's one of them. So when you have that cookout, PLEASE don't have it in a Walmart parlking lot!

Maybe it's because I don't live in a vacation area, or even in route to one, but I have yet to see RVs at WM with awnings, grills, or chairs out. I haven't really seen people around the RV either. I know if I saw those things, it would certainly get my attention. Maybe this happens more in areas where they're waiting for their site in the CG to open, or waiting to meet someone, or the DH or DW is running errands somewhere for a bit.
In our small town we have one motel, no CGs. Used to have a B&B but they retired. We do, however, have a big factory. I believe people coming to meetings in town, or visiting family, do stay overnight in our WM....I just don't catch them. DH says he sees them early of a morning.

Amen to that, when I arrived at the Wally Monday evening, I saw some partly burned BBQ pellets on the pavement, no doubt in my mind as to how they got there. Thankfully there was rain the previous day and night so IMHO someone was definitely having a cookout.

And then there is Me! who couldn't care less how close a campground was, we still wouldn't be in it life's like that.

I agree , we find it about the same, one time I did see a couple sitting in chairs outside their RV at a Wally but on that day I certainly don't find fault with that, it was darn hot. Maybe Wally should have hookups for running the AC on days like that
Cheers

I have on occasion sat in a lawn chair, layed out a carpet ( in a Walmart parking lot) for the dog to lie on while waiting for DW to come back from shopping. Its not always hot when I do this , hope it passes the Walmart etiquette regime.

Read someplace a number of years ago that Walmart (think walmart did the survey) averaged around $55 in sales from each overnighting RV. of course that figure has probably gone out the window now. For those crying that the campgrounds are selling out to the big developers stop and think of (1) the CG is probably making a landfall of money on the deal compared to long hours needed for a PROPER run CG and (2) those CG were probably not properly maintained or jacked up there going rates excessive to what was actually furnished or was not properly located depending on the traffic situation. Agree only really takes one SLOB to ruin it for everyone. See the french from Quebec set up house keeping at the Flying J's on their way north/south and for days at a time in southern florida. Anything said to them and suddenly they speak no english

Are you sure that the parked RV's are not those of the rodeo folks next door?

Yep, the rodeo had closed for the season. These were just RVers gathered there randomly. Interesting question however - there is much more space at the rodeo grounds than in wally world.

Hi GeorgeT~
well it passes mine (if I have any ) Look! if anyone asks at Wally for an overnight stay where it's allowed, the answer is usually the same "park away from the store". So at that distance away from the mad shoppers, truthfully who would really care. The way I see it as long as you don't leave a mess, make a nuisance of yourself, the only ones who will choke up about it will be some (not all) campground owners and our own Wal Mart Police.
Just printed map locations of a couple more Wal Marts for next week's adventures. Most campgrounds if not all CG's around here are now closed.
So I'll pose this question for discussion
1 " If all area camp grounds are closed for the season, then where do you suggest an RV'er stay overnight?"
2 " If it's OK to park overnight at these suggested locations while CG's are unavailable, then why is it considered Tacky to stay at them while CG's are available?"
Just wondering
Cheers
Willey

Quick update on WM parking. The one in Florida City just north of the Keys no longer allows RV camping. Don't know why yet.
