RonK,
Very un-nerving experience, I am sure. Glad you are OK.

I would ALWAYS listen to my instincts. If I get a bad feeling, then there is usually a reason. I have gotten that feeling more than once in a nearby rest stop during the day yet I often see a couple RV's parked there for the night. It's not all rest stops and I would stay the night in one... just not that one. I know that the state and local cops do not patrol it (or stop in) at night or during the daytime. I haven't run into a Wal-Mart that creeped me out. I'm sure that there are some. But I have noticed that the cops tend to drive thru the parking lots. Now in New Braunfels TX, we stayed in a Wal-Mart parking lot and there was couple of nut cases fighting in the parking lot (the woman kept yelling at our RV and at another RV as well) all night. A call (two actually) brought no results from the manager. I learned a lesson there. Next time we have that kind of situation on the parking lot, I will call 911!

Wohoo! Another great experience with American capitalism. We spent last night in Salem, VA and it cost me a mear $3.xx for some jug water. I went in and asked for permission and she was more than friendly only requesting that we park on either side of the store. By sundown we had a regular little campground with us, one Allegro, a HR MH, an Escalade, another MH and two other fivers. My friend called that is also traveling and first question was did you put you jacks down and my reply was if you're on a level parking lot, no need.

We arrived about 4pm and left at 7am. Prior to leaving, all I needed to do was walk around the mh to do my usual check without all the unhooking.

I almost feel like a thief.

Stayed at Knoxville, Tenn WM going and coming back from Boston as AAA suggested CG was beautiful but in low/ bad neighborhood area near river. Put out 1 slide, no jacks because most of the back lot area (manager said park towards back if possible)had level spots (for fridge) and left trash IN dumpster. Had lots of company, lots of room, other Class A's, trucks, etc. Did drop Toad (for sightseeing) but was careful and locked to MH at night even with 2 security guards in lot at all time. Between my wife, my two children and myself we spent over $200 in 4 or 5 trips into store. Pretty even trade if you ask me.

Charles pay know attention to Wayne, he's still upset that he had to buy us a meal recently. I do appreciate your offer of a meal. Maybe we need to start an "itinerary" service for just such a thing...meals.

We'll be setting up at the Wal Mart in Tuscaloosa, Al tomorrow. Drinks served at 5, unless we arrive early.

Jim, you be careful about that "Wal-Mart camping" now.. we wouldn't want the "Wal-Mart Camping Police" to nab you now would we!

Be careful and do let me know when you're going to be in this area again...Heck, I might even get my coach out and join you. We could start a Wal-mart rally...

Dang gum it! Nobody offered diner in Tuscaloosa so we drove on to Meridian, MS. Its kinda hard to find from the GPS directions but we arrived. We drove around the parking lot looking for another "cheap Soul" but alas we were on our own. We parked out front away from everyone and went inside to ask permission. I started at the customer service with "I probably need to ask a manager but we want to spend the night in our motorhome". "No problem just park on the right, out in front of the store". By coincidence, thats exactly where we had parked. I've now welcomed a charming couple from Louisiana by directing them to the assigned guest parking.

So far its only cost me about $12 for miscellaneous items that we needed.
