Who ever said owning or operating a RV of any type was cheap, I'm thinking they don't have their facts straight

WELL, as one of those hated and nasty, evil "anti Wal Mart RVers", we have made it our practice to take RESPONSIBILITY for our own travel planning and accommodations,

[moderator edit]

- so we make sure to plan our route, and make reservations well in advance of long distance travel - especially logical [moderator edit] when Holiday travel is involved, don't you think?

Why on earth would any [moderator edit] RVer pay 10's of thousands of $$$$ for an RV - and THEN determinedly REFUSE to plan travels ahead for the relatively FEW paltry dollars a guaranteed resting place at the end of the days travel provides for them and their family?

YEAH, I know - [moderator edit] trip planning is ALSO not popular in discussions on this thread's topic...

Then again, why invest huge $$$$'s if you can't just take off and travel on a whim, no plans, just what comes to mind. I'm on a schedule all the time in my work. I don't really want to always be on a schedule when I 'vacation'.

But, Gary-
We do plan ahead!
I know the location of every Wal-Mart in Washington State, and I'm working on Oregon
Some days are mainly travel days, and what's the point of paying some campground for the privilege of getting a few hours' sleep?
That's when Camp Wal-Mart comes in most handy...
Squandering my hard-earned on an RV park in those circumstances would constitute an offense against my Sainted Mother's Teachings.
Especially since she's not even dead yet, I'm careful to adhere to her principles.

Not that is funny right there!

DW and I traveled all over the U.S. on two wheels. Planning consisted of getting up in the morning, looking at the weather and decided which direction to go.

Adding more wheels has not changed a thing. It is not about the destination, but the journey.

I was wondering, is this the longest running thread on IRV2?

Second thought is, will this thread reach over 2000 or more entries.

I look forward to reading this every day, actually more than once a day.

Judging by other responses, Gary, you may be in the minority, at least in this topic. Planning is for sissys. Why spend 10's of thousands of dollars on a self-contained RV only to spend your evenings tethered to plumbing and electrical lines? As someone else said, it's about the journey, not the destination. We don't always know where we're going, much less where we'll spend the night. Often it's Wal-Mart, often it's some other commercial business, casino, sometimes it's a road-side pull-out but it's almost never a campground. Again, it's not about the cost of a nights "camping." It's about convenience and spontaneity. I, for one, have tried it your way for years while raising a family and needing the features of a campground to occupy the little ones. Now that it's just the two of us, we find camping right next to some other RV about as appealing as dumping the tanks. Would you be willing to try it our way for awhile? You might like it!

Are you saying that staying next to other RVs in a WalMart parking lot is preferable?

That was a given right at the BEGINNING of my post!

Squatting on a chunk of Wal-Mart or similar parking lot blacktop is obviously viewed by most here as a God-given right - as Sacred as the Gospel, Constitution and Bill of Rights all put together, and ANYONE who dares challenge that "right" and "social entitlement", is obviously guilty of heresy, sedition and RV terrorism...

SO, some pop in here frequently justifying THEIR position - and I occasionally do the same with mine - we may all someday meet on a Walmart parking lot - but WE will be there purely to shop, not to camp...

just put a chair for me beside you, as i am 100% of the same opinion as you. Take responsibility for your own life.
enough already letting the gov support them.
