We were on the road July 4Th and pulled into a Walmart to sleep shortly after 10 pm. and it was full to the rim with people waiting for a nearby fireworks display. ( was delayed for rain) Live band in the parking lot...... No room for us so we moved on to a Flying J at 1 am :(

I preferred Flying J over Walmart.
Easy in, easy out and no pesky 4 wheelers.

I agree, but why are so many named Lynske and Belkins.

linksys and belkin are brand names of wifi router's. The router owner didn't feel the need to change the SSID.

That is exactly why I made the comment. Usually if they can't figure out how to rename it, they don't know how to set up a password. Somehow, I don't think they intended to share it with RV'ers in Wal-Mart. So many fast food places now have free WiFi and with my antenna, I can frequently get reception from one of them. The linksys and belkins folks are probably in nearby apartments.
Verizon has now done away with unlimited data for new customers so my Android is still going to be an option for tethering until I need a new phone.

I have a bit of a WalMart quandary.. This city is picky about parking a M/H in the driveway. Their rules stated something like it could be parked on the street for up to 48 hours and in the drive for 7 days. So I had it in the drive for 5 days or so, put it in the street for 24 hours then moved it back to the drive for 5 more. Within their laws as posted, right? Well, apparently someone took exception to my tactics because I came out one day to find my unit with a remove or be towed tag! No officer knocked on my door. No one bothered to ask me what I was doing or why it was there, just a sticker to move it!!
Well, my RV is now on our vacation property 85 miles away and I need to do some work to it, but can't park it on my property here and don't get enough time at the vacation property to get the work done.
Here's the question: do I ask my local Walmart if I can park it there for a week or so or do I ask permission at the closer Cabelas? The Walmart is near two busy streets but not necessarily the best part of town and the Cabelas is closer, near a major highway but somewhat more secluded and out of site. We. as a family spend plenty of money at both places. The DW is on a first name basis with a LOT of the clerks at WM. I may just have to stay in the M/H overnight rather than leave it empty overnight in this Chicago suburb as there are no camp grounds local and handy here. What do you think??
I can't fight City Hall, but maybe I can just get around it long enough to get the job done.
And hopefully I've just inspired the next 49 posts to reach "our" goal!! LMBO!!!

Do you know anyone who could let you park it in their back yard? I am assuming there is no bylaw for that? I also going to assume you have no back lane to access your own back yard?

I do have an alley and some room to park it there outside our privacy fence but every light and most signs in our alley have BB gun marks on them; I think I'd be safer in a lighted parking lot...We do have plans of eventually moving our fence for that purpose, but the RV needs work now...

That's too bad that a few of your neighbours don't respect property and had to complain about your RV parking in your front driveway.

Yeah, not the best neighborhood; landed here years ago and refused to be chased out. Lots of "have-nots" here...We've outlasted the worst of the trouble makers and the gunfire is virtually non-existent these days...It's close to a lot of good jobs and it IS our home now...

I am an outspoken pro-WalMart overnighter, having done so many times. However, since you asked, I would think that parking your MH at WM or Cabela's, or any other retail store, for a week or so while you do your maintenance/repairs is a bit beyond reasonable. THAT is exactly the kind of behavior that will quickly kill the overnight parking privilege that so many of us enjoy. I sympathize with your situation, but hope that you can find another solution. Just MHO.

I agree. You could rent a month at an RV storage place. Staying a week at Wal-Mart and working on it could be a problem unless it was an emergency.

I DID say I'd ASK them UP FRONT for what I was going to do. What MORE do YOU want???
Cabelas has a HUGE parking lot that has NEVER even been close to full and usually has many semis' most nights. Our WM lot isn't so big and does get filled on occasion...

With all due respect, I wouldn't even ask. I feel WM's (Cabela's or any other place) courtesy of allowing overnight parking for sleeping should not be stretched to parking for an extended period & using their lot for a repair shop. I don't think that's what their generous policy is meant for. But, then, that's JMO.
