Warning! leaves, ice & acorns on slide awning

We have been camped for a month in North Georgia. Preparing to leave after the temps had dropped to 15 degrees the night before, I decided to check the roof area prior to pulling in the slides. Good idea it was. Rain, mixed with a lot of leaves and acorns had frozen into a heavy mass that had popped the center of our longest slide awning out of its center support. Had I tried to retract, there would definitely have been real damage. It took about an hour to remove the ice, clear leaves and nuts from the awning cover and get the awning back into its center carrier. Be sure to check out your roof before you retract slides in winter.

Yup. We have snow on ours. Going climb up and clean it off today.

Yup, ran mine out a few days ago to dry it and we had wet snow/rain followed by dry snow and cold. I had to remove iced snow with a broom and break ice out of the rails to run it back in before it got any more weight on it.

I rolled mine up once when it was full of leaves and pine needles and wet. That wet goo then wrapped onto the bottom side of the awning and leaving it in storage turning it green, no easy way to clean the underside. Now before I pull in the slides, knowing it is going in storage, I make sure they are relatively clean and dry. That entails going on the roof with a broom and old towel.
