Watch out for your neighbor

This morning, while sitting in a New Mexico RV park having my morning coffee, I watched fellow RV’ers head out on another day’s journey. Without intervention some of them might not have a great day.

A neighbor, two sites down from us, pulled out my DW noticed his satellite dish was still up. I quickly got up and a quick blast of the air horn got his attention. He glanced out the window to see me step out into the 19 degree morning chill in my house coat pointing up at his roof. He came to a stop and a minute or two later his dish was on its way down into its correct travel position.

Warming back up, not 10 minutes later, another coach pulled down the driveway with his TV antenna still reaching into the sky. Once again it was a blast of the air horn and a chilly trip out into the cold in my housecoat waving an arm and pointing to his roof. A minute or so later his antenna began to tilt down onto his roof, ready to travel safely.

Still reluctant to get properly dressed for the cold, I continued to watch other coaches depart and thought I’d post this as a reminder for each of us to watch out for fellow RV’ers and travel their preparedness as they leave the campground.

Agree with the approach and definitely something I personally appreciate when I forget. Thanks for being a good RV neighbor.

Yes, we need to watch out for each other.

We were pulling out of an RV park in Charlotte just after Christmas and an older gentleman stopped us right before we went through the iron pipe guards that would have torn my steps off. (or at least bent them badly)

I'm so grateful for him and others that keep their eye out for us.

I've sure glad our MH has a big yellow light near the ignition key to remind be the antenna is up; but I still hang the ignition key from the antenna handle anyway_old habits die hard.

That's what I did with the Dutch Stars. The Magna has no dash light and the antenna is push button operated so no antenna handle. So far I haven't used the OTA antenna so it hasn't been a problem but I'm sure I'll rip it off someday!
With the Dutch Star I climbed the ladder and looked at everything on the roof before leaving. The Magna doesn't have a ladder so I do a walk around from a distance.

What a good neighbor. Too bad someone couldn't help this guy.

From someone who has operated equipment all their life I couldn't stress enough the importance of a 360 degree walk around before getting under way. A quick look around, under and over the top can save a lot of problems.
Looking out for a fellow RV owner is great IMO. I have seen some errors that could have cost someone some real heartache.

Having been a pilot and a flight instructor in the USAF, with over 6000 flight hours. I am used to check lists. I don't have any problem using them.
Thanks for relating that story.
